The Ireland cricket team toured Sri Lanka in April 2023 to play two Test matches. [1] [2] [3] This was Ireland's first ever Test series consisting of more than a single match. [4]

Contents

Initially, Ireland were scheduled to play a Test match along with two One Day International (ODI) matches. [5] [6] In March 2023, following a request from Sri Lanka Cricket, [7] the schedule was changed to include a second Test instead of the two ODI matches. [8] [9]

Sri Lanka defeated Ireland in a one-sided contest in the first Test match. [10] Sri Lanka also won the second test and claimed the series 2–0. [11]

A left arm orthodox spinner, left handed batter and a dynamic fielder, Jayasuriya together with his opening partner Romesh Kaluwitharana is credited for having revolutionized one-day international cricket with his explosive batting in the mid-1990s, which initiated the hard-hitting modern-day batting strategy of all nations. He was a key member of the Sri Lankan team that won 1996 Cricket World Cup. Under his captaincy Sri Lanka became joint champions along with India in the 2002 Champions Trophy. Currently, he is the head coach of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.

Angelo Davis Mathews is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer and a former captain of the national cricket team in all formats. Mathews plays all formats for Sri Lanka. Mathews was a member of the team that won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 and was part of the team that made the finals of 2011 Cricket World Cup, 2009 ICC World Twenty20 and 2012 ICC World Twenty20. Mathews and Lasith Malinga hold the record for the highest ninth wicket partnership in ODI cricket.

Lokuge Dinesh Chandimal is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer and a former captain of the Sri Lanka national cricket team. A handy right-handed middle order batter who sometimes plays as the wicket-keeper, Chandimal lead Sri Lanka in the group stages of the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 in which Sri Lanka ended up as the champions.

Hettige Don Rumesh Lahiru Thirimanne, known as Lahiru Thirimanne is a former Sri Lankan international cricketer, and a former ODI captain. He is a left-handed opening batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He had also acted as a vice-captain of the Sri Lanka One Day International team, when he was dropped from the team after poor performances. He was recalled in 2018 for the national team. Thirimanne was a member of the Sri Lankan team that won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20, and the 2014 Asia Cup, where he was the player of the series in the Asia tournament.

Frank Dimuth Madushanka Karunaratne, popularly known as Dimuth Karunaratne, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer and former captain of the Sri Lanka Test and ODI teams. Considered as one of the best Test openers in the world, he has been included 3 times in the ICC Test Cricket Team of the Year. He is the opening batter for Sri Lanka in Test cricket and ODIs. He plays first-class cricket for the Sinhalese Sports Club.

Mathurage Don Kusal Janith Perera, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer currently plays limited overs cricket and a former ODI cricket captain. He was a key member of the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 winning team.

Balapuwaduge Kusal Gimhan Mendis, popularly known as Kusal Mendis is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays in all forms of the game and a former ODI captain of the national team. He only played sixteen first-class matches before playing for the national side. In November 2017, he was named the One Day International (ODI) batsman of the year for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket's annual awards.

Wedagedara Sadeera Rashen Samarawickrama, popularly as Sadeera Samarawickrama, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who represents the national team in all formats of the game. He was part of Sri Lanka's squad for the 2014 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He is a past pupil of Thurstan College and St. Josephs College, Colombo,Sri Lanka.

Dhananjaya Maduranga de Silva is a Sri Lankan professional cricketer, who plays for Sri Lanka in all formats of the game and for Tamil Union in domestic cricket and current captain of the national team in Test cricket. Pasqual Handi Kamindu Dilanka Mendis, popularly known as Kamindu Mendis, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national team in all three formats and for Colombo Cricket Club in domestic cricket. He is an ambidextrous bowler who can bowl both right and left-arm deliveries during the same over. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in October 2018.

Neketh Gedara Roshan Prabath Jayasuriya, commonly known as Prabath Jayasuriya, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national team in Tests and ODIs. In domestic matches, he plays for Colts Cricket Club and Jaffna Stallions. His bowling style is slow left-arm orthodox.

The Sri Lanka cricket team toured the United Arab Emirates in September and October 2017 to play two Tests, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches against the Pakistan cricket team. The tour included the first Tests that Sarfaraz Ahmed of Pakistan captained following the retirement of Misbah-ul-Haq. The tour also featured a T20I match in Pakistan, the first time that Sri Lanka had visited the country since 2009.

The South Africa cricket team toured Sri Lanka in July and August 2018 to play two Tests, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a Twenty20 International (T20I) match. Originally, the tour was for three Test matches, but the third match was dropped and replaced by the ODI and T20I fixtures. The extra ODI fixtures were used as preparation for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

The England cricket team toured Sri Lanka in October and November 2018 to play three Tests, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and one Twenty20 International (T20I) match. The tour included England's first Test matches in Sri Lanka since 2012.

Kottasinghakkarage Nishan Madushka Fernando is a Sri Lankan cricketer currently plays as the opening batsman for national Test team. In April 2018, he was named in Dambulla's squad for the 2018 Super Provincial One Day Tournament. He made his List A debut for Dambulla in the 2018 Super Provincial One Day Tournament on 2 May 2018. Prior to his List A debut, he was named in Sri Lanka's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

The Australian cricket team toured Sri Lanka in June and July 2022 to play two Tests, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20Is) matches. The Test series formed part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship. Both cricket boards confirmed the fixtures for the tour in March 2022.

The Pakistan cricket team toured Sri Lanka in July 2022 to play two Test matches against the Sri Lankan cricket team. The Test series formed part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship. In April 2022, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the series would be taking place. Originally, the tour was also going to include three One Day International (ODI) matches, but these were cancelled in May 2022, as they were not part of the 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. The fixtures for the tour were confirmed in June 2022. Pakistan last toured Sri Lanka for a Test series in June and July 2015. On 17 July 2022, Sri Lanka Cricket moved the second Test from the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to the Galle International Stadium due to the economic crisis in the country.

The Ireland men's cricket team toured Bangladesh in March and April 2023 to play one Test, three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.

The 2024 National Super League Limited Over Tournament is the 3rd season of National Super League Limited Over Tournament, the List A cricket tournament that is played in Sri Lanka. The tournament is being held from 23 February to 9 March 2024. Dambulla were the defending champions and won the tournament, defeating in the final.
