The Tennessee Fire is the debut album by the rock band My Morning Jacket. It introduced the reverb-heavy sound that is characteristic of the band's early material. This is most apparent in Jim James' vocals, many of which were recorded in an improvised studio above his cousin’s garage. Of the sixteen tracks on the album, only four were re-recorded in a professional studio prior to the album’s release: "Heartbreakin Man", "The Bear", "Evelyn Is Not Real" and "I Think I’m Going to Hell".

The packaging claims it was recorded at the Startime Pavilion in Braintree, MA on October 31, 2003; however, no such venue exists, and that show did not, in fact, occur. When asked by a reporter about the circumstances of the EP's recording, given that no Startime Pavilion exists in Braintree, Jim James facetiously replied, "Well,…the Startime Pavilion was only open for one show. They tore it down after we played because we rocked so hard.…the structure couldn't take the impact of the rock, so they had to level it because of public safety concerns." The actual recording dates were October 17, 18, and 20, 2003, in Dallas, TX, Austin, TX, and Atlanta, GA.

And Two-Tone Tommy's thumping bass riff proved guitars don't get all the best licks. And when Carl Broemel replaced Quaid in 2004, 'Run Thru' got heavier live — like 'Free Bird' and 'Kashmir' combined."
