The J Awards of 2020 were the sixteenth annual J Awards, established by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's youth-focused radio station Triple J.
The eligibility period for releases took place between November 2019 and October 2020. [1]
The winners were announced live on Triple J on 19 November 2020, with Lime Cordiale receiving the Australian Album of the Year Award for their album 14 Steps to a Better You , Archie Roach receiving the Double J Artist of the Year Award, Joey Hunter and Tasman Keith receiving the Australian Video of the Year Award for "Billy Bad Again", JK-47 receiving the Unearthed Artist of the Year Award, and Isol-Aid receiving the Done Good Award. The John Butler Trio are an Australian roots/rock band led by guitarist and vocalist John Butler, an APRA and ARIA-award-winning musician. They formed in Fremantle in 1998 with Jason McGann on drums and Gavin Shoesmith on bass. By 2009, the trio consisted of Butler with Byron Luiters on bass and Nicky Bomba on drums and percussion, the latter being replaced by Grant Gerathy in 2013. After both Luiters and Gerathy exited the trio in early 2019, bassist OJ Newcomb and drummer Terepai Richmond joined the band, accompanied by touring musician Elana Stone on keyboards, percussion and backing vocals.

Alasdair David George Murray, professionally known as Illy, is an Australian rapper from Ormond, Victoria. Illy first emerged onto the hip hop scene in 2009 and has released five studio albums and has won multiple ARIA Music Awards. Megan Alexanda Washington is an Australian musician and songwriter who works mononymously as Washington. Originally performing jazz music, her style shifted to indie pop and alternative rock. Washington's music has been described by I-D as "sexy synth-laden pop" and in 2019 the Sydney Morning Herald said of her intimate tour run, that "Washington’s impressive command of her relatively small stage gave proof her music can work anywhere, anyway, any time."
Ball Park Music is a five-piece indie rock/pop band based in Brisbane, Australia, made up of frontman Sam Cromack (guitar/vocals), Jennifer Boyce, Paul Furness (keys/trombone), and twins Dean Hanson and Daniel Hanson.
Flight Facilities is an Australian electronic producer duo that also performs as Hugo & Jimmy. In 2009, they began mixing songs by other artists before crafting their own original material. The duo consists of Hugo Gruzman and James Lyell. Their debut album, Down to Earth was released in October 2014 and features prominent names in the industry such as Kylie Minogue, Emma Louise, Reggie Watts, Bishop Nehru, Christine Hoberg, Owl Eyes, and Stee Downes.
Harley Edward Streten, known professionally as Flume, is an Australian musician, DJ and record producer. His self-titled debut studio album, Flume, was released on 9 November 2012 to positive reviews, topping the ARIA Albums Chart and reaching double-platinum accreditation in Australia. Flume is regarded as the pioneer of future bass who helped popularize the genre.
Courtney Melba Barnett is an Australian singer, songwriter, and musician. Known for her deadpan singing style and witty, rambling lyrics, she attracted attention with the release of her debut EP, I've Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris. International interest came with the release of The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas in October 2013.
Jessica Alyssa Cerro, who performs as Montaigne, is an Australian art pop singer-songwriter-musician. Her debut album, Glorious Heights, was released on 5 August 2016, which peaked at No. 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2016 she won Breakthrough Artist – Release for the album and was nominated for three other categories. In April 2016 she was a featured vocalist on Hilltop Hoods' track, "1955", which reached No. 2 on the ARIA Singles Chart. She was supposed to represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with her song "Don't Break Me", however the Contest cancelled due to the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Europe. On 2 April 2020, it was announced that she would represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
Amy Louise Billings known by her stage name Amy Shark, is an Australian indie pop singer-songwriter-guitarist and producer from the Gold Coast, Queensland. During 2008 to 2012 her early solo material was released and performed under the name, Amy Cushway. Her 2016 single, "Adore", peaked at number 3 on the ARIA Singles Chart and was also listed at number 2 on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2016. Her album Love Monster debuted at number 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Shark has won 6 ARIA Music Awards from 19 nominations, including winning Best Pop Release twice: in 2017 for her extended play, Night Thinker, and in 2018 for Love Monster. She married Shane Billings, a financial manager, in 2013.

Lime Cordiale are an Australian pop rock duo from Sydney, consisting of brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach. They formed in 2009 and released their debut studio album Permanent Vacation in 2017. The duo have performed at Groovin' the Moo and South by Southwest.
Natalie Vezer is an Australian singer-songwriter from Melbourne. Her debut album (LP), Is This Offensive and Loud?, was released in 2020 on Hotel Motel Records. The album has been ranked one of the best albums of 2020 by a number of publications and is nominated for the 2020 Australian Music Prize. Vazer was nominated Best Breakthrough Act at the 2020 Music Victoria Awards.
The 2019 Triple J Hottest 100 was announced on 25 January 2020. It is the 27th countdown of the most popular songs of the year, as chosen by listeners of Australian radio station Triple J. A record-breaking number of votes were cast by listeners choosing their top ten songs of 2019. This was the first Hottest 100 countdown to reach 3 million votes.

The ARIA Music Awards of 2020 is the 34th Annual Australian Recording Industry Association Awards and consist of a series of awards. The ARIA Awards ceremony is scheduled to occur on 25 November 2020, however due to COVID-safe restrictions, it will be without an audience and will be broadcast from the Star Event Centre, Sydney on the Nine Network around Australia.
