Jacob Dungau Sagan (born 26 September 1946) was the former Member of Parliament of Baram,Sarawak from 1995 to 2013 and was the first Kenyah person to be appointed as a deputy cabinet minister in Malaysia.
Jacob was born in Long Anap,Ulu Baram,Sarawak. He is of the Kenyah tribe from the Orang Ulu ethnic community. He is able to speak and write English,Bahasa Malaysia (Sarawak Malay dialect),Kenyah and Kayan fluently. He also speaks the Iban and Penan languages.
Jacob holds a Bachelor of Agriculture Science from the University of Adelaide,South Australia in 1970,Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Education from Worcester College of Higher Education,UK (1980) and Certificate in Education,Wolverhampton Polytechnic UK (1980/1981). He continued his studies in 1985 and obtained the Certificate in Management form Asian Institute of Management. In 1991,he received a Certificate in Planning and Managing Rural Development from Asian Institute of Technology,Thailand.
He was awarded the Senior Service Fellows from John F. Kennedy School of Government,Harvard University,Massachusetts,USA in 1994. The course is equivalent to Masters in Management.
He is well trained in the art of public speaking and communication skills. He participated in Toastmasters International and was conferred the award of a Competent Toastmaster (CTM). Toastmasters International is a worldwide organisation dedicated to promote the art of public speaking. He used to conduct seminars and courses in the art of public speaking to various government departments.
His father was the late Tua Kampung Taman Pulo Sagan and ex-Councillor for Baram District Council for 6 years. He is married to Datin Winnie Jolly (of mixed Iban and Chinese origins). She is one of the supreme council members of SPDP representing the women's wing quota and was previously one of the elected Sarawak National Party (SNAP) Ketua Wanita 1999–2002 and Barisan Nasional (BN) Wanita member at state and national levels.
On 6 July 1970,Jacob joined the Department of Agriculture,Sarawak Archived 18 March 2009 at the Wayback Machine . When he was appointed as the Assistant Director of Agriculture (Farmers Institution) (ADFI),he headed the Farmers Institution (FI) Branch in Sarawak. He conducted various leadership programmes in the planning,development,program implementation,monitoring and evaluation of the Farmers Organisation development in the State of Sarawak;covering one State Farmers Organisation and 26 Area Farmers Organisation which constitutes 100,000 Farmer members. The ADFI is responsible for four main divisions of work which are:Planning and development;Farmers Organisation management;Auditing and Accounting;and Business Management Services. Apart from that,he served in various posts in the Department of Agriculture Sarawak which included Youth Services,Agricultural Extension Services,Divisional Agriculture Officer,Farmers Training as well as staff training.
Jacob entered Parliament at the 1995 election,as a member of the Sarawak National Party. He left the party in 2002,with a group of other politicians,to found the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP). He was re-elected to Parliament in 1999,2004 and 2008,although was dropped as the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Baram seat at the 2013 election. For his final term in office,from 2008 to 2013,he was a Deputy Minister for International Trade and Industry. [1]

The National Front,officially Barisan Nasional (BN),is a political coalition of Malaysia that was founded in 1974 as a coalition of centre-right and right-wing political parties to succeed the Alliance Party. It is the third largest political coalition with 30 seats in the Dewan Rakyat after Pakatan Harapan (PH) with 82 seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 74 seats.
The Progressive Democratic Party,formerly known as Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party,is a Sarawak-based political party in Malaysia founded in 2002. The party was founded in the wake of the de-registration of the Sarawak National Party in November 2002 by a faction aligned to the Chief Minister of Sarawak,Abdul Taib Mahmud,led by William Mawan Ikom. The party has since rebranded in using a new name - Progressive Democratic Party since 2017 and has planned to expand to certain West Malaysian states e.g. Selangor,Negri Sembilan and Johor. It is one of the former component party of the Barisan Nasional coalition. Following the fall of BN in the 2018 general election and in the aftermath of meeting between all Sarawak-based BN coalition parties on 12 June 2018,PDP left the coalition to form a new Sarawak-based coalition of Sarawak Parties Alliance.
The United Bumiputera Heritage Party is a political party in Malaysia. It is currently the largest political party in Sarawak. Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu was formed from the combination of three parties in Sarawak;Parti Negara Sarawak,Barisan Rakyat Jati Sarawak and Parti Pesaka Anak Sarawak. The formation of the party was for the purpose of the improvement of the livelihood and protect the rights of the Bumiputera in many fields such as politics,economy and social. The ninth Sarawak state election was held on Saturday,20 May 2006 with nomination day on Tuesday,9 May 2006. The election functioned to elect 71 representatives to the Sarawak State Assembly. The eighth state assembly was dissolved by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak,Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng by the advice of Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud,on 24 April 2006.

Alexander Nanta Linggi is a Malaysian politician. He is Secretary-General of both Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and its coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). He has served as Minister of Works in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim since December 2022. He served as the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob from August 2021 to the collapse of the BN administration in November 2022 and his first term in Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 to the collapse of the PN administration in August 2021 as well as the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under former Prime Minister Najib Razak and former Ministers Shafie Apdal and Ismail Sabri Yaakob from May 2013 to the collapse of the BN administration in May 2018. He has also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kapit since November 1999. He is also the cousin of Wilson Ugak Kumbong,the current Deputy Minister of Digital and MP for Hulu Rajang.
Harrison Ngau Laing is a Malaysian environmentalist and politician,a member of the Kayan tribe. He was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 1990 for his work to prevent deforestation of the Sarawak region. He was a member of the Malaysian Parliament from 1990 to 1995.

The eleventh Sarawak state election was held on Saturday,7 May 2016 after nomination for candidates on Monday,25 April 2016. The 82 members of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly,were elected in single-member constituencies using first-past-the-post voting. More than 1.1 million who had their names entered or retained in an electoral register for a particular electoral district in Sarawak was eligible to vote at the time of the election. Malaysia does not practice compulsory voting and automatic voter registration. The voting age is 21 although the age of majority in the country is 18. The election was conducted by the Election Commission of Malaysia.

The Ba'kelalan by-election was a by-election for the seat of Ba'kelalan state constituency in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly. The seat fell vacant after the death if its incumbent member,Dr Judson Sakai Tagal in a helicopter crash at Mount Murud. The seat was defended for Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition government by Nelson Balang Rining of the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP),while an independent politician Baru Bian contested against BN in a straight one-to-one fight.

Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. James Jemut Masing was a Malaysian politician who served as the Deputy Chief Minister,State Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development of Sarawak under Chief Ministers Adenan Satem and Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Abang Openg as well as Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Baleh from May 2016,January 2017 and December 1983 to his death in October 2021 respectively.
Dato Anyi Ngau is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Baram since May 2013. He is a member of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP),a component party of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and formerly Barisan Nasional (BN) coalitions. He has also served as the Secretary General of PDP since June 2023.
