Jaime Czarkowski (born December 5, 2003) is a Canadian-American synchronized swimmer. She competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics for the United States, winning a silver medal in the team event.
Czarkowski was born on December 5, 2003, in Calgary, where she grew up. [1] [2] Her father, Mark, was a minor league baseball player with the Seattle Mariners. [3] She holds dual Canadian-American citizenship. [3] Czarkowski first began competing in synchronized swimming at age six, following after a neighbor. [4] She made it her goal to become an Olympian at age eight, after meeting Olympic medalist Cari Read. [4] She is a graduate of Western Canada High School in Calgary. [5]
A member of the Calgary Aquabelles club, Czarkowski initially competed in events for Canada. [3] She made her first Canadian national team at age 13 and became a member of the junior national team aged 14, being selected for the FINA Junior World Championships. [3] During the COVID-19 pandemic, while training from home, she noticed the American national team hired Andrea Fuentes as a coach, someone whom Czarkowski admired. [3]
Czarkowski reached out to Team USA about the possibility of joining them. [3] After a successful tryout, she made the team and moved to Los Angeles in 2021. [3] She competed for the U.S. at the 2022 FINA Artistic Swimming World Series, winning gold medals in six events, and at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, with a best placement of fifth. [6] She won four medals at the 2023 World Cup, two at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships, two at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships, and six at the 2024 World Cup. [6]
Czarkowski was selected to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the team and duet events. [2] In the team event, she helped the U.S. win the silver medal, the first medal for the country in the event since 2004, while in the duet, she placed 10th with Megumi Field. [4] [7]
Synchronized swimming or artistic swimming is a sport where swimmers perform a synchronized choreographed routine, accompanied by music. The sport is governed internationally by World Aquatics. It has traditionally been a women's sport, although FINA introduced a new mixed gender duet competition that included one male swimmer in each duet at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and European Aquatics introduced men's individual events at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships. From 2024, men are able to compete in the team event at the Olympics.

Svetlana Alekseyevna Romashina is a former Russian synchronized swimmer. She won a total of 41 gold medals while competing in four Olympic Games, seven world championships, and six European championships. After winning two golds at the 2020 Summer Olympics, she became the most decorated athlete in the history of her sport.
William May is an American synchronized swimmer. Performing primarily in duets, May won several national and international events. May desired to compete at the 2004 Summer Olympics, but then there was not yet a mixed or male category in Synchronized Swimming.
Anna Kozlova is a former synchronized swimmer who competed in three Olympic Games. After competing in the 1992 Summer Olympics and winning four European Championships representing the Soviet Union and its successor organizations, she defected to the United States in 1993. After missing the 1996 Atlanta Games due to a five-year wait to receive U.S. citizenship, she competed for her new country in Sydney, where her best placing was fourth. She went on to win gold medals in the Pan-American Games in 2003, before returning to her third and final Olympics in Athens, where she won two bronze medals.

Katerine Savard is a Canadian competitive swimmer who specializes in women's butterfly events and freestyle relay. She holds several Canadian national records in the butterfly over the 50-, 100-, and 200-metre distances in both the short and long courses. Savard also holds the Canadian junior butterfly record in the 200-metre event. She won the gold medal at the 100-metre butterfly event at the 2013 Summer Universiade, held in Kazan. Savard also won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the 100-metre butterfly in Glasgow, where she set the Commonwealth record in the process. At the same games, she won a bronze medal as a member of the women's 4×100-metre medley relay team.
Yukiko Inui is a Japanese competitor in synchronised swimming. She won Japan's first gold medal in each the solo technical routine and the solo free routine at a FINA World Aquatics Championships at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in the duet event with Megumu Yoshida, and in the team event.

Anna-Maria Alexandri is a Greek-Austrian synchronized swimmer. She competed in the women's duet at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and 2020 Olympics. She is competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics in artistic swimming women's duet on August 9 and 10, 2024.
Wang Liuyi is a Chinese synchronised swimmer. She won a gold medal and a silver medal at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. She also won a team gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games and a duet-free gold medal at the 2018 World Series. At the 2024 Summer Olympics, she won gold in both the artistic swimming women's team and duet events.
Deborah Muir is a Canadian former synchronized swimmer and coach. She began her career with the Calgary Aquabelles club in 1965 and won silver medals in the synchronized swimming team competitions at both the 1971 Pan American Games and the 1973 World Aquatics Championships. At age 20, Muir retired from competition and began a career in coaching. She coached swimmers of the Calgary Aquabelles to 22 national titles over a decade. She also helped athletes clinch medals in the World Aquatics Championships, the FINA Cup, the Commonwealth Games, the Pan American Games and the Summer Olympic Games. Muir has won various awards for her coaching career, and is an inductee of the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
Sylvie Fortier is a Canadian former synchronized swimmer. She won medals in Canadian provincial and national competitions, at the World Aquatics Championships, the Pan American Games and the Pan Pacific Games. Fortier was named the 1976 world champion in synchronized swimming for her achievements that year and was a torch bearer for the opening ceremony of the Montreal Summer Olympics. She retired in 1977 aged just 18. Fortier is an inductee of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and the Aquatics Hall of Fame.
Summer Ann McIntosh is a Canadian competitive swimmer. She is a three-time Olympic champion, four-time World Aquatics champion, and two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist. Noted for her strength in medley and butterfly events, she is the current world record holder in the 400 metre individual medley, and also holds the Olympic and textile records in the 200 metre butterfly event, and the Olympic record in the 200 metre individual medley.
Shelly Bobritsky is an Israeli Olympic swimmer who competes in Artistic swimming. She competed in the 2020 Olympics in duet, was the European Champion in the free combination event in 2023, and was a three-time European medalist as well as a two-time European Cup bronze medalist. Bobritsky represented Israel at the 2024 Paris Olympics in artistic swimming women's duet with Ariel Nassee, and the pair came in 11th.
Georgia Vasilopoulou is a Greek synchronized swimmer. She won a silver medal in artistic swimming at the 2020 European Aquatics Championships as a member of the Greek team in the Combination Routine event. Vasilopoulou earned bronze medals at the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series in the Duet Free event (2018) and Team Technical event (2019) and also competed for Greece at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships.
Artistic swimming competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France ran between 5 and 10 August at the Paris Aquatic Centre. For the first time since the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, the competition featured fewer than 100 athletes, with a total of 96 athletes competing in two medal events, namely the women's duet and the mixed team.
