Park's share of the vote was the highest won by any candidate since the beginning of free and fair direct elections in 1987 and the first such election in which any candidate won a majority. Moreover,as of the 2022 election,this is the latest South Korean presidential election in which the winning candidate won an absolute majority of the vote.
Lee Sang-don is a South Korean legal scholar and a conservative liberal political activist. His liberal philosophy was influenced by American conservatism and neoconservatism,but he is critical of South Korean conservatism. He currently works as a professor at Chung-Ang University. He is a conservative pundit well known for expressing criticisms towards the Lee Myung-bak government. He received criticisms from a group of pro-Lee Myung-bak lawmakers for participating in the restructure of the Saenuri Party in the past due to his distance with Lee Myung-bak.
The Korea Vision Party,more commonly known as the K Party,is a center-rightist political party in South Korea. It was founded on 12 February 2012 by Park Se-il,president of the Hansun Foundation,a conservative think tank. There are concerns that the K Party will split the conservative vote,though Park Se-il met with Saenuri leader Park Geun-hye on 23 February,with Park Geun-hye commenting that "If a party holds the same values and orientation,we are open to partnering". The party aims to field over 200 candidates in the April elections,favoring the selection of women and younger politicians. In an opinion poll conducted on 24–25 February 2012,the K Party received a support level of 1.4%,out-ranking the more established New Progressive Party. Analysts have nonetheless raised questions over the ability of the party to secure seats,even if sitting Assembly members do defect.
Lee Hahn-koo is a South Korean politician and the former parliamentary leader of the Saenuri Party. A former economist,Lee was previously an economic adviser and chief of staff to Park Geun-hye,and in the 2012 parliamentary elections he campaigned on the slogan "Make Park Geun-hye the next president". He studied at Seoul National University and completed a doctoral degree in economics at Kansas State University before serving the South Korean Ministry of Finance as a civil servant. He is now serving his fourth term in the Assembly,having been elected as a proportional representation candidate in 2000 before becoming member for Suseong-gap in Daegu in 2004.
Legislative elections were held in South Korea on 13 April 2016. All 300 members of the National Assembly were elected,253 from first-past-the-post constituencies and 47 from proportional party lists. The election was an upset victory for the liberal Democratic Party,which defied opinion polling by winning a plurality of seats in the election and defeating the ruling conservative Saenuri Party by one seat. In votes for party lists,however,Democratic Party came third,behind the Saenuri Party in first place and the new People Party in second.

Yoo Seong-min,also known as Yoo Seung-min,is a South Korean economist and politician. Yoo is former a member of the Korean Parliament and was the Bareun Party's presidential nominee in the 2017 South Korean presidential election. He is the son of late Daegu court chief,attorney and Member of Parliament,Yoo Soo-ho for Junggu of Daegu.
Kim Boo-kyum is a South Korean activist and politician,who served as the Prime Minister of South Korea from 2021 to 2022. He was the former Minister of Interior and Safety from 2017 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party,he also served as the Member of the National Assembly for Suseong 1st constituency from 2016 to 2020 and was previously MP for Gunpo from 2000 to 2012,first for the Grand National Party (GNP) and then,from 2003,the liberal Uri Party and its successors. In the 2016 parliamentary election in Daegu,Kim defeated his Saenuri opponent Kim Moon-soo in a 62.5 per cent landslide,marking the first time a member of a liberal party had been elected in that city since 1985. Kim had earlier stood for mayor of Daegu in the 2014 local elections,and received 40 per cent of the vote,a number seen at the time as unusually large in the conservative stronghold. He stated in 2014 that he hoped to "overcome the barrier of regionalism".
Ji Sang-wook is a South Korean academic and politician in the conservative Bareun Party. He is currently a member of the National Assembly for Jung-gu and Seongdong-gu,Seoul,and was previously head of the party's district organization in Jung-gu.
Suh Chung-won is a South Korean politician who served as a member of the National Assembly for eight terms. He also served as floor leader of the Our Republican Party. Suh has been in the National Assembly for 32 years,being the second most-elected member.
