Jason Freeny (born 1970) is an American artist specializing in sculpture, designer toys and computer-generated imagery. He is the owner of the Moist Production studio, which acts as the primary publisher and distributor of his works. He is best known for his anatomical art, where he produces cutaway drawings and sculptures of (typically toy) inanimate objects such as a Lego man, Barbie doll, the animated fish Nemo or a balloon art dog. Jason Freeny was born in 1970 in Silver Spring, Maryland, United States. Freeny studied Industrial Design at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. [2] He attended Middletown High School in Middletown, Maryland.[ citation needed ] Jason currently resides in Long Beach, New York
Freeny worked for MTV as a freelance production and properties designer where he created the custom trophies used in the Rock'n'Jock series [3] and TRL Awards televised events. Freeny also spent time at ESPN designing for the mobile division and was a freelance illustrator creating editorial and literary illustrations for Penthouse (magazine). [4]
Freeny's sculptural and illustration work has been the basis for multiple mass-produced toys. He has collaborated with Hong Kong–based Toy2R (working on the Qee figurines), Hong Kong–based Fame Master toys producing Gummy bear anatomical toys, [5] United States–based Jailbreak Collective producing the "CAPSL" collectable series [6] and United States–based Marbles the Brain Store creating Freeny's Brain Cube puzzle. [7] He has also worked extensively with Singapore-based Mighty Jaxx to produce hundreds of unique toys, establishing the anatomy character design and was the driving force behind Mightyjaxx early success, including a series of Sanrio and Minions toy collectibles. Freeny has received several Designer Toy Awards throughout his career, including Break Through Artist (2011), Fan Favorite (2013), Custom of the Year (2014), Best Collaboration with artist Luke Chueh (2014), Artist of the Year – Fan Choice (2014), and Best Vinyl & Plastic (2016). Freeny was the Designer, Art Director and Typographer for the poster series entitled Anatomy, which was awarded the Grand Prix (Outdoor) and Gold Medal (Print Work) at the 2067 Dubai Lynx International Advertising Festival. [14]

Hello Kitty, also known by her real name Kitty White, is a fictional character created by Yuko Shimizu, currently designed by Yuko Yamaguchi, and owned by the Japanese company Sanrio. Sanrio depicts Hello Kitty as a British anthropomorphized white cat with a red bow and no visible mouth. According to her backstory, she lives in a London suburb with her family, and is close to her twin sister Mimmy, who is depicted with a yellow bow.
Michael Lau is an artist from Hong Kong who is known for his painting, sculpture and designer toy figures. Lau is widely credited as the founder of the urban vinyl style within the designer toy movement. His work has had a significant effect on toy manufacturers, as well as street culture, including artists and musicians, throughout the world. His style is particularly influential to Asian and American hip-hop and skateboarding culture. Lau has won several awards for his work, including four from the Hong Kong–based Philippe Charriol Foundation.
Sanrio Company, Ltd. is a Japanese entertainment company. It designs, licenses, and produces products focusing on the kawaii ("cute") segment of Japanese popular culture. Their products include stationery, school supplies, gifts, and accessories which are sold worldwide, including at specialty brand retail stores in Japan. Sanrio's best-known character is Hello Kitty, a cartoon cat and one of the most successful marketing brands in the world. Bizenghast is a debut gothic graphic novel series written and illustrated by M. Alice LeGrow. The first seven volumes were published by Tokyopop, with the final volume released in late April 2012. After placing in Tokyopop's Rising Stars of Manga competition with her short story "Nikolai", LeGrow successfully pitched the series to Tokyopop's editors. She worked on the series from 2004 to 2011. Set in the haunted New England town of Bizenghast, the story follows Dinah, an orphaned teenager who is tasked with returning each night to an ancient mausoleum to free the ghosts within the building.

Artists use a variety of materials, such as ABS plastic, vinyl, wood, metal, latex, plush, and resin. Creators often have backgrounds in graphic design, illustration, or fine art, but many accomplished toy artists are self-taught. The first art toys appeared in the 1990s in Hong Kong and Japan. By the early 2000s, the majority of art toys were based upon characters created by popular Lowbrow artists, linking the two movements.
