Jeju Province, officially Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, is the southernmost province of South Korea, consisting of eight inhabited and 55 uninhabited islands, including Mara Island, Udo Island, the Chuja Archipelago, and the country's largest island, Jeju Island. Cheju Halla University is a private university in Jeju City, the principal city of South Korea's island province of Jeju Province. Originally established as a nursing school, it retains a strong emphasis on medicine, although academic programs in many other fields are now offered.

Jeju National University of Education was the only teacher-training university on South Korea's Jeju Island. It was located in the provincial capital, Jeju City. It merged with Cheju National University and its campus is used as Sara Campus of Cheju National University in 2008. Since then, it is being operated as the Teachers College of Cheju National University now.

Shimane University — colloquially known as Shima-dai (島大) — is a national university in Japan. Although formally established as a university in 1949, Shima-dai's origins date back to the late 19th century. In 2003 it merged with the Shimane Medical University. It is a multi-disciplinary university, with faculties in law and literature, education, medicine, science and engineering, and life and environmental science. The university has graduate schools in humanities and social sciences, education, medical research, science and engineering, life and environmental science, and law. Frederic H. Dustin, PhD was an American professor, author, businessman and philanthropist. He was the creator and owner of the Gimnyeong Maze Park on Jeju Island, South Korea. Dr. Dustin, a professor at Jeju National University, was an honorary citizen of the Jeju Self-governing Province. He was also reportedly the longest independently living foreigner in Korea and continued to maintain his U.S. citizenship.

Jeju International University (Korean: 제주국제대학교) is Tamra University and Jeju University of Industry and Information are integrated and open to private universities, located in Jeju, South Korea. In 1972, it was admitted to Jeju Unemployment College. In 1982, it changed its name from Jeju Unemployment College to Jeju Special Forces College. In 1998, Jeju Junior College changed its name to Jeju Industrial Information College. In 1999, Jeju Industrial Information University was established and the Lifelong Education Center was approved the same year.
