Jeon Yeo-been (Korean : 전여빈;born Jeon Bo-young on July 26,1989) is a South Korean actress. Jeon rose to prominence for her performance in the independent film After My Death (2018) which earned her the Actress of the Year Award at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival and the Independent Star Award at the 2017 Seoul Independent Film Festival. Jeon's career continued to rise after she starred in the television series Vincenzo (2021),the crime action film Night in Paradise (2021) and television series A Time Called You (2023).
Jeon originally had aspirations of becoming a doctor during her school days. However,after failing to gain admission to the university she wanted,she discovered her passion for movies. While watching Dead Poets Society, a film that moved her to tears,she made the decision to pursue a career in filmmaking. [2]
While studying in Broadcast Entertainment at Dongduk Women's University,Jeon worked as a staff member for musicals and theaters. In 2009,at the age of 21,she decided to pursue acting and participated in her college musical called 'Lunatic'. In the production,she portrayed a grandmother with dementia,an experience which she considers to be her debut work as an actress and holds significant meaning to her. [2]
Jeon started acting professionally in 2014,after actress and director Moon So-ri saw her in a trailer for the Seoul International Women's Film Festival and contacted her to make an appearance in the short film The Best Director. [3]
Since then,she has been appearing in independent and short films and also in commercials and music videos for Yoon Jong-shin,Lee Seung-hwan,and Zico. [2]
In 2015,Jeon made her debut in the period drama film The Treacherous . [4] In 2017,Jeon portrayed an undercover journalist investigating a religious cult in the thriller TV series Save Me . [5] Jeon rose to prominence after her performance in After My Death (2018),and received numerous accolades,including Best New Actress at the 56th Grand Bell Awards,the Actress of the Year Award at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival,and the Independent Star Award at the 2017 Seoul Independent Film Festival.
On July 2,2018,it was announced that Jeon had signed with J.Wide-Company. [6]
In May 2020,director Kim Hee-won and screenwriter Park Jae-bum teamed up to create the TV series Vincenzo,in which Jeon was offered a starring role alongside Song Joong-ki. Ok Taec-yeon was already confirmed for the cast at that point. In August 2020,Jeon officially confirmed her appearance in the show,reuniting with Ok Taec-yeon,with whom she had previously worked in Save Me (2017). The first script reading for Vincenzo was held on January 5,2021. [7]
In September 2020,Jeon played the role of Jae-yeon in Park Hoon-jung's film Night in Paradise. The film revolves around the character of Tae-goo (portrayed by Uhm Tae-goo),who seeks revenge after his sister and niece are brutally murdered. During his stay on Jeju Island,he meets Jae-yeon,a terminally ill woman played by Jeon. However,Tae-goo's troubles are far from over,as the Bukseong gang's Director Ma,portrayed by Cha Seung-won,relentlessly hunts him down for revenge. [8]
On March 15,2021,Jeon was cast in the Netflix series Glitch . She portrayed a woman who is looking for her missing boyfriend. [9] On July 12,2021,she signed with Management MMM after her contract with J.Wide Company expired. [10]
On February 11,2022,it was confirmed that Jeon was cast in Kim Jee-woon's film Cobweb . [11] She portrayed Shin Mi-do,the head of finance at a film production company. For her performance,Jeon received the award for Best Supporting Actress at the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards,and was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress for the 59th Grand Bell Awards.
