Hironimus Pakaenoni, S.T.L., (born on 14 April 1969) is an Indonesian prelate of the Catholic Church and diocesan priest. He was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kupang on 9 March 2024 to succeed Mons. Peter Turang. [1] [2]
Hironimus Pakaenoni was born on 14 April 1969 in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. He received his primary and secondary education in his home town. He then attended the minor seminary in Atambua and the Major Seminary in Maumere, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. He obtained a bachelor's degree in philosophy and theology there, and then he spent a year of pastoral service in Kupang. [3] [4]
On 8 September 1997, Pakaenoni was ordained as a diocesan priest in Kupang and incardinated there. He completed his post-graduate studies at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, Italy and obtained the licentiate degree in theology there in 2003. During his priesthood, he held roles as an academician, college lecturer, and pastor in Kupang, in Oloeta, and in Sulamu, both in East Nusa Tenggara (1999–2001;2003-2004). He also served as the formator of the interdiocesan major seminary in Kupang (2004–2024) and chairman of the Swastiari Educational Foundation (2012–2023). [5] [6] [7]
On 9 March 2024, he was officially appointed as the Metropolitan Ordinary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kupang to replace Peter Turang and raised to the rank of Monsignor. He was ordained and installed at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Kupang on May 9, 2024 [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13]
