Joseph Melton Campbell (born October 6,1952) is an American politician from Georgia. Campbell is a Republican member of Georgia House of Representatives for District 171. [1]

Milton County was a county of the U.S. state of Georgia from 1857 to 1931. It was created on December 18,1857,from parts of northeastern Cobb,southeastern Cherokee,and southwestern Forsyth counties. The county was named for John Milton,Secretary of State of Georgia from 1777 to 1799. Alpharetta was the county seat until the end of 1931,when Milton was merged with Fulton County to save it from bankruptcy during the Great Depression. At that time,Campbell County,which had already gone bankrupt,was also ceded to Fulton,giving it its 70-mile (110 km) long irregular shape along the Chattahoochee River.
Campbell County was a county of the U.S. state of Georgia from 1828 to 1931. It was created by the state legislature on December 20,1828,from land taken from Fayette,Coweta,and Carroll counties,and from the half of DeKalb County which became Fulton County soon afterward. Georgia's Cherokee Land Lottery of 1832 also added to the county. The county was named for Duncan G. Campbell,one of the U.S. commissioners responsible for the Treaty of Indian Springs.
John Archibald Campbell was an American jurist. He was a successful lawyer in Georgia and Alabama,where he served in the state legislature. Appointed by Franklin Pierce to the United States Supreme Court in 1853,he resigned at the beginning of the American Civil War,traveled south and became an official of the Confederate States of America. After serving six months in a military prison at war's end,he secured a pardon and resumed his law practice in New Orleans,where he also opposed Reconstruction.
The Battle of Kettle Creek was the first major victory for Patriots in the back country of Georgia during the American Revolutionary War that took place on February 14,1779. It was fought in Wilkes County about eleven miles (18 km) from present-day Washington,Georgia. A militia force of Patriots decisively defeated and scattered a Loyalist militia force that was on its way to British-controlled Augusta.
Francis Marion Campbell was an American football defensive lineman and coach. He played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs from 1949 until 1951,where he was appropriately nicknamed "Swamp Fox" because of his first and middle names. During his National Football League (NFL) playing career,he played for the San Francisco 49ers (1954–1955) and the Philadelphia Eagles (1956–1961),winning Pro Bowl honors in 1959 and 1960 and also being named 1st team All-Pro in 1960 as part of the Eagles' championship team that year. The Battle of Brier Creek was an American Revolutionary War battle fought on March 3,1779,near the confluence of Brier Creek with the Savannah River in eastern Georgia. An American Patriot force consisting principally of militia from North Carolina and Georgia along with some Continental Army troops were defeated by British forces,suffering significant casualties. The rout damaged Patriot morale.
The Capture of Savannah was a battle of the American Revolutionary War fought on December 29,1778. It pitted an American garrison of Continental Army and militia units against a British invasion force commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Archibald Campbell. The capture of the city led to an extended occupation and was the opening move in the British southern strategy to regain control of the rebellious Southern Colonies by appealing to the relatively strong Loyalist sentiment there.

The Province of Georgia was a significant battleground in the American Revolution. Its population was at first divided about exactly how to respond to revolutionary activities and heightened tensions in other provinces. Georgia was the only colony not present in the First Continental Congress in 1774. When violence broke out in 1775,radical Patriots took control of the provincial government,and drove many Loyalists out of the province. Georgia subsequently took part to the Second Continental Congress with the other colonies. In 1776 and 1778,Georgia served as the staging ground for several important raids into British-controlled Florida. The British army captured Savannah in 1778,and the American and French forces failed to recapture the city during the Siege of Savannah in 1779. Georgia remained under British control until their evacuation from Savannah in 1782.

The Campbell Fighting Camels men's soccer team represents Campbell University in all NCAA Division I men's college soccer competitions. The Fighting Camels currently play in the Coastal Athletic Association,and are coached by Dustin Fonder. The program plays their home matches at the Eakes Athletics Complex.
