Johnny Chastain is an American politician and banker. He currently represents the 7th district in the Georgia House of Representatives.
Before running for office,Chastain was a banker. He served as an executive of United Community Bank.
Chastain entered the special election for the 7th district after the death of incumbent representative (and Speaker of the House) David Ralston. In the first round,Chastain placed second out of five candidates. [1] He faced Ralston's widow Sheree in the runoff. Chastain narrowly defeated her in the runoff. Observers considered his victory an upset,as Ralston had the backing of several prominent leaders,including governor Brian Kemp. [2]

Vernon Angus Jones is an American politician who served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001 and from 2017 to 2021.
Jan Slaughter Jones is an American politician in Georgia. A Republican,she has been a member of the Georgia House of Representatives since 2003,and was acting Speaker of the House from November 2022 to January 2023 following the death of former Speaker David Ralston. David Ralston was an American attorney and a Republican politician who was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 2003 until his death. From 2010 onwards,he was also its 73rd Speaker of the House. Ralston was the longest-serving Republican Speaker in state history and the longest-serving Speaker of the Georgia General Assembly since Tom Murphy.

Handel succeeded Tom Price,who resigned from the seat following his confirmation as United States Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Trump administration. The runoff election was necessary when no individual candidate earned the majority of votes in the election on April 18. Ossoff received 48.1% of the vote in the first round,followed by Handel with 19.8%.
