Georgia,officially the State of Georgia,is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States. It borders Tennessee to the northwest,North Carolina to the north,South Carolina to the northeast,Florida to the south,and Alabama to the west. Of the 50 United States,Georgia is the 24th-largest by area and 8th most populous. According to the U.S. Census Bureau,its 2023 estimated population was 11,029,227. Atlanta,a global city,is both the state's capital and its largest city. The Atlanta metropolitan area,with a population of more than 6 million people in 2021,is the 8th most populous metropolitan area in the United States and contains about 57% of Georgia's entire population. Other major metropolitan areas in the state include Augusta,Savannah,Columbus,and Macon. Georgia has 100 miles (160 km) of coastline along the Atlantic Ocean.
Elections in Georgia are held to fill various state and federal seats. Regular elections are held every even year. The positions being decided each year varies,as the terms of office varies. The State Senate,State House and U.S. House will typically be up for election,as all of those positions have two-year terms. Special elections are held to fill vacated offices. Georgia is one of seven states that require a run-off election if no candidate receives a majority of the vote in a primary election. Uniquely,Georgia requires a run-off election for state and congressional offices if no candidate wins a majority of the vote in a general election;only Louisiana has a similar requirement,but it operates under a different election system.
The Georgia Republican Party is the affiliate of the Republican Party in the U.S. state of Georgia and one of the two major political parties and the current favored party in the state and is currently chaired by Joshua McKoon.

A special election to determine the member of the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's 6th congressional district was held on April 18,2017,with a runoff held two months later on June 20. Republican Karen Handel narrowly defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff in the runoff vote,51.8% to 48.2%. Handel succeeded Tom Price,who resigned from the seat following his confirmation as United States Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Trump administration. The runoff election was necessary when no individual candidate earned the majority of votes in the election on April 18. Ossoff received 48.1% of the vote in the first round,followed by Handel with 19.8%.
The 2018 Georgia Secretary of State election was held on November 6,2018,to elect the Secretary of State of Georgia. It was held concurrently with the 2018 gubernatorial election,as well as elections for the United States Senate and elections for the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Republican Incumbent Secretary of State Brian Kemp chose not to run for re-election and instead ran successfully for governor. Since no candidate received the requisite 50 percent of the vote,the top two candidates,Democrat John Barrow and Republican Brad Raffensperger proceeded to a runoff on December 4,2018.
Brenda Lopez Romero is an American politician and is the first Latina to have ever been elected to the Georgia General Assembly. She was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from the 99th District,serving from 2017 to 2021. State Rep. Lopez Romero served on the State House Education,Retirement,and State Planning and Community Affairs committees. Lopez Romero sponsored 72 bills. She is a member of the Democratic party. After weeks of lobbying by the Latino Victory Fund,Georgia House Minority Leader Bob Trammell and other public figures in the state,Lopez Romero launched her campaign for Georgia's 7th congressional district on May 1,2019. After a second place finish to Carolyn Bourdeaux,Romero went on to lead the Gwinnett County Democratic Party as its Chair. Additionally,she serves as Senior Assistant District Attorney for the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit handling special projects.
Lucia Kay McBath is an American politician who has served in the United States House of Representatives from a district in the suburbs of Atlanta,Georgia since 2019. She represented Georgia's 6th congressional district from 2019 to 2023,and has represented the neighboring 7th district since 2023. McBath is a member of the Democratic Party.
Robert Thomas Trammell Jr. is an American politician from the state of Georgia. A member of the Democratic Party,Trammell represented the 132nd district in the Georgia House of Representatives and served as the minority leader from 2017 to 2021.
Carolyn Jordan Bourdeaux is an American educator and politician who served as the U.S. representative from Georgia's 7th congressional district from 2021 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party,she was a professor at the Andrew Young School of Public Policy at Georgia State University from 2003 to 2021.
The 2022 United States Senate election in Georgia was held on November 8,2022,to elect a member of the U.S. Senate to represent the state of Georgia. Incumbent Democratic senator Raphael Warnock won his first full term in office,defeating Republican former football player Herschel Walker. Under Georgia's two-round system,Warnock was re-elected in a runoff election on December 6 after neither candidate received over 50% of the vote on November 8.
Elizabeth Bachman Moore is an American attorney and former member of the Georgia House of Representatives from the 95th District,serving from 2019 to 2023. She is a member of the Democratic Party. At the time Moore represented the 95th District it included the cities of Peachtree Corners,Berkeley Lake,Duluth,Norcross,and Johns Creek. The district included citizens of both Gwinnett and Fulton counties. As of 2022,District 95 was changed to a completely different area south of Snellville and north of Stonecrest and Conyers.

The Republican Party decisively won every single statewide office in Georgia except for the Federal Senate race which narrowly went Democratic in 2022.
The 2022 Georgia lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on November 8,2022,to elect the lieutenant governor of the U.S. state of Georgia. It coincided with various other statewide elections,including for U.S. Senate,U.S. House,and Governor of Georgia. Georgia is one of 21 states that elects its lieutenant governor separately from its governor.
