Joel Cassells (born 15 June 1994) is a British rower [1] who made his mark on the senior stage during his relatively short international career, winning gold at the World and European Championships and is focusing on Coaching the next generation of rowers.
Joel starting rowing in 2006 at Bann Rowing Club. He then moved to Oxford for his university education where he competed for Oxford Brookes University Boat Club. In 2014 he stroked the eight which won the Temple Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta. He won the gold medal in the lightweight men's coxless pair competition at the 2015 European Rowing Championships. He was part of the British team that topped the medal table at the 2015 World Rowing Championships at Lac d'Aiguebelette in France, where he won a gold medal as part of the lightweight coxless pair with Sam Scrimgeour. He won a bronze medal at the 2016 World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, as part of the lightweight coxless pair with Sam Scrimgeour. [3]
He announced his retirement from international rowing in April 2017, returning to row for Oxford Brookes University Boat Club and focus on coaching the next generation of rowers.
Joel coached rowing at Kew House School Boat Club in West London. He coached the very successful at the time J15 Quad in the 2020/2021 racing season.
Joel is captain of Molesey Boat Club.
Joel is also a part of the Castore Sportswear Academy. [4]

Robin Williams MBE is a Welsh professional rowing coach for Team GB. He represented Great Britain at six world championships, winning silver and bronze medals. He was coach to the Cambridge University Boat Club for 11 years winning seven Varsity Boat races. As of 2014 he is coach to the World record holders and the reigning Olympic, World, World Cup and European champions of the women's coxless pair, variously rowed by Helen Glover, Heather Stanning and Polly Swann, achieving an unbroken sequence of twelve gold medal victories at world level.
George Christopher Nash is a British rower. He is dual Olympian, dual Olympic medal winner and three time world champion.
Paul Anthony Thompson MBE is an Australian elite level rowing coach and former rower. As a rower he was an Australian under-age champion, won a silver medal at the 1985 U23 World Championships and rowed in senior King's Cup eights for both South Australia and New South Wales. He has coached Australian and British crews to World Championship titles and Olympic medals including taking Kate Slatter and Megan Still to Australia's first women's Olympic rowing gold at Atlanta 1996. By 2012 he was Great Britain's head coach for women and lightweights and took British crews to three gold and two silver medals at London 2012. Since 2022 he has been Rowing Australia's High Performance Director.
Grace Elizabeth Prendergast is a former New Zealand sweep rower. She is a 15-time national champion in the premier category, an Olympic champion, a five-time world champion and the current (2022) world champion in the coxless pair. She grew up in Christchurch, where she started rowing for the Avon Rowing Club in 2007. She competed at the Tokyo Olympics in two boat classes and won gold in the coxless pair and a silver in the eight and set a new world's best time in the pair. Various parties, including the World Rowing Federation, expected her to win medals in Tokyo. She was the highest ranked female rower in the world twice in a row in 2019 and 2021. Since 2014, her rowing partner in the coxless pair has been Kerri Gowler. Prendergast is also a Boat Race winner, having competed as part of Cambridge University Boat Club's (CUBC) women's crew in 2022. She retired from professional rowing in October 2022.

The following year he competed at the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Bosbaan, Amsterdam, where he won a bronze medal as part of the lightweight coxless pair with Sam Scrimgeour.
