John Calverley was an English Anglican priest in the 16th-century. [1]
Calverley was educated at All Souls College, Oxford. [2] He was appointed Rector of Stone, Kent in 1559, and of Beckenham in 1561, and Cliffe in 1572. He was Archdeacon of Rochester from 1574 until his death two years later.

The Rev. William Slater Calverley (1847–1898) was an unassuming rural English vicar who through diligent study and painstaking scrutiny became an extraordinary amateur antiquarian. Although born in Leicestershire, Calverley claimed his fame through interpreting the carved sculptured relics that he and others found in Cumberland churchyards. He made intricate drawings, corresponded with academic authorities, and gave his own interpretations, which he then relayed to a wider audience. Calverley later produced in intricate detail a life-sized reproduction of the famous Gosforth Cross, which now stands in Aspatria churchyard.

During and after World War II she engaged in humanitarian work, including in Crete where she nursed at the front and filmed the conflict. She then used her filming as publicity to seek assistance for those disabled as a result of the conflict. She was also a music composer, with many works in chamber music and orchestral music, such as the String Quartet in F minor and the Variations on a Harmonic Theme.

A statue of Robert Burns stands in Washington Park in Albany, New York, United States. The statue was designed by Charles Calverley and was unveiled in 1888. Four bas-reliefs around its pedestal, in part designed by George Henry Boughton, were later added in 1891. The statue is one of the oldest pieces of public art in the park.
