Juma Volter Mwapachu (born 27 September 1942 in Mwanza,Tanzania) [1] is a Tanzanian politician and former Secretary General of the East African Community. [2] He replaced Amanya Mushega of Uganda [3] who completed his five-year term on March 24,2006.
Mwapachu was nominated for the post by Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete. [4] He was elected as Secretary General of the East African Community by the Summit of EAC Heads of State on April 4,2006. Prior to this appointment,Mwapachu was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Tanzania's permanent delegate to UNESCO.
Mwapachu is a law graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam (degree obtained in 1969). [1] He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in International Law,International Institutions and Diplomacy from the Indian Academy of International Law and Diplomacy,New Delhi,India. The University of Dar es Salaam conferred on him a Doctor of Literature degree (Honoris Causa) in 2005.

Salva Kiir Mayardit,the president of South Sudan,is the current EAC chairman. The organisation was founded in 1967,collapsed in 1977,and was revived on 7th July 2000. The main objective of the EAC is to foster regional economic integration.

Jokate Mwegelo was appointed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan as the District Commissioner for Korogwe District in Tanga Region in January,2023 . She is a member of Chama Cha Mapinduzi,previously served as Secretary in charge of Public Relations and Mobilization UVCCM - youth wing of Chama Cha Mapinduzi.
The 17th EAC Extra Ordinary summit was held on 8 September 2016 in Dar es Salaam,Tanzania. The summit was held with regards to the European Union and East African Community Economic Partnership agreement. Furthermore,the unrest in Burundi and South Sudan was discussed.
The 18th EAC Ordinary summit was held on 20 May 2017 in Dar es Salaam,Tanzania. The focus of the summit was the European Union and East African Community Economic Partnership agreement. Also on the agenda of the meeting was the status of the EAC political federation and the speedy integration of South Sudan. The leadership of the community was also transferred from John Magufuli of Tanzania to Yoweri Museveni of Uganda. The Burundian crisis was significantly neglected during the summit,however,Yoweri Museveni the new chairman of the member bloc vowed to quickly find a solution to the crisis.
Herman Cornel Lupogo was a Tanzanian military officer and government administrator. After graduating from Makerere University,he enlisted in the Tanzania People's Defence Force in 1965. He held various positions in the army,including head of the National Leadership Academy,and served as a brigadier during the Uganda–Tanzania War of 1978 and 1979. He retired with the rank of major general in 1992,and subsequently worked as a government administrator. He chaired the Tanzania Commission for AIDS from 2001 until 2007,and died in 2014.
Augustino Steven Lawrence Ramadhani was a Tanzanian jurist and Christian leader. He was Chief Justice of Tanzania from 2007 to 2010,and a Judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights from 2010 to 2016. From 2017 to 2018 he was episcopal vicar of the Diocese of Dar es Salaam.

Josephine Lemoyan is a Tanzanian sociologist,social services analyst,and politician. She is a member of the Maasai people. After completing degrees in social sciences at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania,and the University of Hull,in England,she specialised in WASH systems from the early 1990s. Working with governments and NGOs,she advised on wastewater treatment facilities and water and soil conservation. In 2017,she was elected as one of the Tanzanian Members of Parliament for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). She served on the EALA's Commission,which oversees the body's administrative functions and served on the committee to evaluate projects and facilities that support the East African Community's common market and custom's union integration. As a member of the Committee on Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution,she worked on legislation to integrate regional laws on livestock movement,trade,and to protect the ecosystems and safe and secure movement of people and goods on Lakes Tanganyika and Victoria.
