The East African Community (EAC) is an intergovernmental organisation composed of seven countries in the Great Lakes region of East Africa:the Democratic Republic of the Congo,the United Republic of Tanzania,the Republics of Kenya,Burundi,Rwanda,South Sudan,and Uganda. Évariste Ndayishimiye,the president of Burundi,is the current EAC chairman. The organisation was founded in 1967,collapsed in 1977,and was revived on 7 July 2000.
Makerere University is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning,first established as a technical school in 1922. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today,Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. The main administrative block was gutted by fire in September 2020 and the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
Speciosa Naigaga Wandira Kazibwe,is a Ugandan politician and first female vice president in Africa. She was the sixth vice president of Uganda from 1994 to 2003,making her the first woman in Africa to hold the position of vice-president of a sovereign nation. Dr. Speciosa Kazibwe is also a Ugandan surgeon. She is also referred to as "Nnalongo",because of her twins. In August 2013,she was appointed by the United Nations's Secretary General,Ban Ki-Moon as United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa.
The East African Federation is a proposed political union of the seven sovereign states of the East African Community in the African Great Lakes region –Burundi,the Democratic Republic of the Congo,Kenya,Rwanda,South Sudan,Tanzania and Uganda –as a single federated sovereign state. The idea of this Federation has existed since the early 1960s,but has not yet come to fruition for a variety of reasons. In September 2018,a committee was formed to begin the process of drafting a regional constitution,and a draft constitution for the confederation was set to be written by the end of 2021 with its implementation by 2023. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted plans to draft and implement a constitution. On March 20,2023,the EAC announced that the drafting process would resume in May 2023 in Kenya.
Beatrice Mukaye Wabudeya is a Ugandan veterinarian and politician. She is the former Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA),in the Ugandan Cabinet,from 17 March 2011 until 27 May 2011. Prior to that,she served as the Minister for the Presidency,from 2006 until May 2011. In the cabinet reshuffle of 27 May 2011,she was replaced at the Ministry for the Presidency by Kabakumba Masiko. She formerly served as the Member of Parliament (MP),representing Sironko District Women's Constituency from 2001 until 2011.
Jessica Eriyo was a Ugandan educator,social worker,politician and diplomat. She served as the Deputy Secretary General of the East African Community,(EAC),responsible for Productive &Social Sectors. She was appointed to that position on 30 April 2012.
Rosemary Museminali is a Rwandan politician and diplomat,currently working for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS),as its representative at the African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Museminali is best known for her role as the Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation from 2005 until 2009. She has also served as the country's Minister of State for International Cooperation and as ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Margaret Nantongo Zziwa is a Ugandan politician and legislator. She served as the Speaker of the 3rd East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) in Arusha,Tanzania. She was elected to serve in that capacity in June 2012. She was impeached and voted out of office on 17 December 2014,on the basis of misconduct and abuse of office,but was later awarded compensation for illegal removal.
The Cabinet of Rwanda consists of the Prime Minister,Ministers,Ministers of State and other members nominated by the President. Members of Cabinet are selected from political organisations based on the number of seats they hold in the Chamber of Deputies,but members of Cabinet cannot themselves belong to the Chamber.
Fred Mukasa Mbidde is a Ugandan lawyer,human-rights activist,mass communication specialist,motivational speaker and politician. He is an elected member of the 3rd East African Legislative Assembly (EALA),representing the Republic of Uganda. He has been in this office since June 2012. He serves on three EALA committees:the Committee on Communication,Trade and Investments;the Committee on Legal,Rules and Privileges;and the Committee on Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution. He is the chairperson of the Committee on Communication,Trade and Investments.
Oliver Wonekha is a Ugandan politician and diplomat,who serves as Uganda's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China,since 2022. She previously served as the country's Ambassador to the United States of America,from 2013,until 2017 and thereafter as Uganda's High Commissioner to the Republic Of Rwanda between 2017 and 2022.
Chris Baryomunsi is a Ugandan physician,public health specialist,demographer,and politician. He is the Minister for ICT and National Guidance in the Cabinet of Uganda. He was appointed to that position in 2021. From 1 March 2015 until 6 June 2016,he served as State Minister of Health for General Duties.

He was the Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC) from 2 March 2016 to 25 April 2021,replacing Richard Sezibera.
Rosmary Mbabazi,is a businesswoman and politician in Rwanda,who has served as the Cabinet Minister for Youth and culture in the Rwandan cabinet,since 31 August 2017.
Lydia Wanyoto Mutende,is a Ugandan lawyer,politician and diplomat,who served as the Deputy Special Representative of the Chairperson of African Union Commission (DSRCC),based in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia. From July 2014 until August 2014,she temporarily served as Head of the African Union Mission to Somalia.
Lorna Magara is the first woman to be elected chairperson of the Makerere University Council,since the founding of the university in 1922. She was elected to a renewable four-year term,effective 20 December 2018. The Council is a 27-member body that serves as the supreme governing organ of Uganda's largest and oldest public university.
Manasseh Nshuti is a Rwandan accountant,businessman,academic and politician. He serves as the Minister of State for East African Community Affairs in the Rwandan Cabinet,effective 1 May 2020. Before that,from 2013 until 2020,he was the Chairman of University of Kigali,a private university in Kigali,the country's capital city.
Misaki Wayengera is a Ugandan physician,academician,and a medical researcher. He serves as a lecturer for Pathology,Immunology and Molecular Biology at Makerere University College of Health Sciences. He is the chairperson of Uganda's Scientific Advisory Committee on COVID-19 for the Ministry of Health and the National Task Force.
