Adhiyaman apprenticed under director K. Vijayan for eight films in the late 1980s, before deciding to become a film maker. [2] After beginning his directorial career with a relatively unnoticed film in Thoorathu Sondham (1992), Adhiyaman wrote the dialogues for Suresh Menon's well received films Pudhiya Mugam (1993) and Paasamalargal (1994) and subsequently bagged the opportunity to make another film. Thotta Chinungi , a relationship drama featuring an ensemble cast of Raghuvaran, Karthik, Revathi, Devayani, Rohini and Nagendra Prasad, won critical acclaim and performed well at the box office. He then featured as an actor in Thalaimurai (1998) directed by Saravana Pandian and won acclaim for his performance, while making another family drama titled Swarnamukhi which had Parthiban and Prakash Raj in leading roles. Adhiyaman then chose to direct his first Hindi film and began remaking Thotta Chinungi in Hindi as Aap Mere Hai Sanam in early 1998. [4] Notably, the film featured an ensemble cast of several leading actors including Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, and Madhuri Dixit while several music composers also worked on the film. The film languished in development hell and was eventually released in 2002 as Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam earning mixed reviews and below average collections, with a critic noting Adhiyaman's "overly simplistic direction lacks both pace and creativity." [5] [6] He then began making a project titled Mujhse Shaadi Karogi in 2002, a romantic drama starring Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty. The project's title was changed to Dil Chura Ke Chal Diye and then to the eventual title Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar and the film was completed within a year, though the producers delayed the film's release indefinitely. [7] [8] Delays meant that Adhiyaman chose to remake the film and release it swiftly in Tamil as Priyasakhi (2005) with R. Madhavan and Sadha playing lead roles. Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar was finally released in August 2006, with the films earning mixed reviews in both languages. [9] [10] [11] In between the ventures, he also started a film titled Hot featuring Neha Dhupia and Parvin Dabbas, but despite completing shoot has not released. [12]
Adhiyaman made another family drama film titled Thoondil starring Shaam, Sandhya and Divya Spandana. Extensively shot in London, Thoondil began shoot in mid 2006 and progressed slowly before releasing to average reviews in February 2008, with reviewers calling it "melodramatic" and noting that it "starts promisingly and turns unsatisfying". [13] [14] Adhiyaman initially planned to remake Thoondil in Hindi with Vivek Oberoi and Bipasha Basu, as well revealing he was set to remake the 2004 Tamil film Ghilli in Hindi with Harman Baweja and Deepika Padukone. [15] He then announced that he was set to remake the Malayalam film Chinthamani Kolacase with Sunny Deol in Hindi as Judgement and would incorporate real life events of the death of journalist Shivani Bhatnagar into the script. [16] Neither of the three films eventually materialised. In early 2010, he began a comedy film titled Amali Thumali featuring Nakul, Shanthnu and Swati Reddy in lead roles. The film was initially titled Nanba and had a tagline of 2 Idiots, and thus the media mistook this film for Shankar's Nanban , the remake of the 2009 Hindi film 3 Idiots . [17] [18] The film was later renamed Amali Thumali. [19] Despite filming scenes in locations including Fiji in 2012, the film is yet to be complete and have a theatrical release. [20] [21] In 2014, it was reported that the director was considering directing a Tamil project featuring Nivin Pauly, Amala Paul and Nazriya Nazim in lead roles. [22]
In August 2018, Adhiyaman began production on a horror film titled Angel starring Udhayanidhi Stalin, Payal Rajput and Anandhi. [23] After eighty percent of the shoot was finished, the film became delayed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Udhayanidhi Stalin subsequently announced his retirement from films, citing that Maamannan (2023) would be his final release, and refused to cooperate with the producers to complete the project. [24]

Prashanth Thiagarajan, known professionally as Prashanth, is an Indian actor and businessman, known for his works predominantly in Tamil cinema. Besides Tamil films, he has also appeared in few Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam films. At the peak of his career in the late 1990s, Prashanth was one of the popular actors in South India. He has won a Kalaimamani Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu. The son of actor-director Thiagarajan, Prashanth began his career at 17 by appearing in Vaigasi Poranthachu (1990) and went on to feature in other films including Balu Mahendra's Vanna Vanna Pookkal (1992), R. K. Selvamani's Chembaruthi (1992), K. Rushendra Reddy's Tholi Muddhu (1993), and Mani Ratnam's action-comedy Thiruda Thiruda (1993). Prashanth rose to stardom with Shankar's romantic comedy Jeans (1998) in which he played a dual role alongside Aishwarya Rai. The success of this film saw him garner opportunities to work in bigger film projects and in the late 1990s, he featured in a series of breakthrough films such as Kannedhirey Thondrinal (1998), Kaadhal Kavithai (1998), Jodi (1999), Parthen Rasithen (2000) and Piriyadha Varam Vendum (2001).

The film stars Madhavan and Sadha, while Aishwarya, Ramesh Khanna, Manobala and Kovai Sarala feature in supporting roles. The film is a contemporary Indian take on life and pregnancy topics, and was remade in Hindi by the same director as Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar. Production began in December 2004 and the film was released on 22 July 2005.

The delay of the film meant that Priyasakhi ended up releasing first.

He began his acting career in the early 1990s by featuring in Hindi soap operas like Banegi Apni Baat, Sea Hawks, Ghar Jamai and Saaya. Udhayanidhi Stalin is an Indian film producer, politician and former actor who prominently worked in Tamil cinema. He was appointed as Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Special act implementation Department of Tamil Nadu in the ministry by his father the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, M. K. Stalin in December 2022. He is a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, representing the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni Assembly constituency.
Rangrezz (transl. Dyer) is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language action drama film directed by Priyadarshan starring Jackky Bhagnani, Priya Anand, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Varma and Amitosh Nagpal. The film is an official remake of the 2009 Tamil film Naadodigal. The film was titled by Shah Rukh Khan, who had registered it through his production company Red Chillies Entertainment. The film was produced by Vashu Bhagnani under his production banner Pooja Entertainment India Ltd. Priyadarshan and Santosh Sivan teamed up for this film, after Kaalapani (1996). The film was released on 21 March 2013.

Priyadarshan is mostly known for directing comedy films but has directed a few non-comical films such as a historical epic film based around freedom fighters in India titled Kaalapani and his epic period drama Kancheevaram. In a career spanning almost three decades, Priyadarshan has directed over 90 films in several Indian languages, predominantly Malayalam and Hindi, besides eight in Tamil, and two in Telugu. Though he began his career in Malayalam cinema in 1984, Priyadarshan was mainly active in Hindi cinema for 2001–2010. In 2013, he announced Rangrezz would be his last Hindi film for a short period; and focused on making more Malayalam films.
Manithan (transl. Human) is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language legal drama film directed by I. Ahmed. The film features an ensemble cast, including Udhayanidhi Stalin, Hansika Motwani, Aishwarya Rajesh, Radha Ravi, Prakash Raj, Vivek and Krishna Kumar. A remake of the Hindi film Jolly LLB (2013), which itself is loosely based on the 1999 Delhi hit-and-run case, the story revolves around a junior lawyer who, after a period of struggle and ridicule among colleagues, fights a case against a powerful supreme court lawyer. The film was released on 29 April 2016.
