Koninklijke Sint-Niklase Sportkring Excelsior was a Belgian football club from the town of Sint-Niklaas that merged with KSC Lokeren in 2000, establishing K.S.C. Lokeren Oost-Vlaanderen.
It was created in 1920 as F.C. Beerschot but the name changed a year later to V.V. Beerschot Sint-Niklaas. The club then registered to the Belgian FA as Sint-Niklaassche S.K. in 1922 and received the matricule n°221. Right after World War II, Sint-Niklaassche qualified for the first division but only stayed at that level for two seasons. Following the relegation, the name changed to Sint-Niklaasse S.K. and then to K. Sint-Niklase S.K. in 1974.
Lokeren is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Lokeren proper and the towns of Daknam and Eksaarde. It is located on the Durme, a tributary of the Scheldt, and is the second most important city of the Waasland after Sint-Niklaas. Mayor Filip Anthuenis ( Open-VLD) was elected for a fourth mandate during the elections on 14 October 2018. Horse sausages are officially recognized as a regional specialty of Lokeren.
Koninklijke Beerschot Antwerpen Club, simply known as Beerschot AC, was a Belgian football club based in southern Antwerp. Beerschot played in the Belgian Pro League from 1999–2000 until 2012–13, when they were relegated not only through their league position, but also lost their professional licence through financial issues, being officially declared bankrupt on 21 May 2013 – one week after the season had ended.
Koninklijke Sporting Club Lokeren Oost-Vlaanderen was a Belgian professional football club based in the city of Lokeren, in the province of East Flanders. The club was founded in 1923 but ceased to exist in 2020 after going bankrupt. A few days after the bankruptcy, the club announced that rather than dissolving entirely, it would merge together with KSV Temse to form Lokeren-Temse, starting in the Belgian Second Amateur Division.
Waasland-Beveren is a Belgian association football club located in the municipality of Beveren, East Flanders. They play in the Belgian first division. The club was known as K.V. Red Star Waasland from 2002 until 2010, when they moved to the nearby stadium of defunct club Sint-Niklase and merged with K.S.K. Beveren. Waasland is the region where the towns of Haasdonk and Sint-Niklaas are located. KSK Beveren, a former Belgian champion and first division regular, had just finished at the last place in the second division and was struggling with financial problems. The club kept the history and matricule number of KV Red Star Waasland but moved from Sint-Niklaas to Beveren to play in a bigger stadium.
The Belgian Third Division A was one of the two leagues at the third level of the Belgian football league system, the other one being the Belgian Third Division B. This division existed from the 1952–53 to 2015–16 seasons and was played every year with 18 clubs from 2009. Prior to this, the third level in the Belgian football league system was called Promotion and was divided into four leagues of 16 clubs each and prior to the 1931–32 season, the Promotion was divided into three leagues. Due to restructuring, the Third Division was replaced by Belgian Second Amateur Division which plays as three leagues of 16 clubs each from the 2016–17 season.

The championship was decided in the penultimate round on May 12, 2007, when Anderlecht moved five points clear of runners-up Genk to retain the title and win their 29th League Championship. At the other end of the table, the struggle to avoid automatic relegation went on until the final round, and it was Lierse who eventually prevailed. Having spent the entire season at the bottom of the standings and only just managed to close an eleven-point gap up to 17th, the Lier side won their last game to climb past Beveren and send the latter down to the Second Division. However, Lierse went on to lose the playoffs and was relegated anyway.

The club was originally founded in 1945 as KSV Temse in the neighbouring town of Temse but following the bankruptcy of K.S.C. Lokeren Oost-Vlaanderen in 2020 both clubs merged together to form K.S.C. Lokeren-Temse.
