Kane is an American country rock, southern rock, [1] and Americana band that was formed in 1998 in Los Angeles, California fronted by actor Christian Kane and disbanded in 2004. The band has released two successful independent albums and has toured both the U.S. and Europe.

History

Kane was formed in 1998 by Christian Kane, Steve Carlson, and Michael Eaton.

Kane worked with some of the most talented and creative studio and session musicians in the business[ who? ]. The band gathered a following and was voted the winner of the 2005 Country Thunder Young Guns Contest, was voted one of L.A.'s 100 Hottest Unsigned Bands by industry magazine Music Connection, and Rock City News and E Media Wire Service described them as "Killer."[ citation needed ]

The band played to good reviews at venues such as the Viper Room, King King, Ivar, Universal Citywalk, the Warner Bros. Sizzlin’ Country fundraiser and around the Southern California area.[ citation needed ] Despite somewhat limited touring, Kane’s self-released debut CD sold over 4,500 copies in the US, with almost half those copies selling in countries as far away as Malaysia, Germany, Australia and Brazil.[ citation needed ]

The band's song "The Chase" appeared on the soundtrack of the 2003 film Just Married . [2]

In 2004, Christian signed as a songwriter with EMI Nashville. The band name Kane was abandoned, instead backing Christian Kane as a solo artist.[ citation needed ]

As one of the earliest internationally successful Christian death metal bands from Australia, they served as an inspiration for later similar groups.

The Whipper Snappers is an Australian pop band. Based in Sydney, the band was formed in 1986 by Annette Crowe, Joy Howard, Tim Eaton and Frank Zaknich. They released their debut single in 1988 and the next year played a cover of "Stairway To Heaven" on The Money or the Gun. Later that year they contributed a new original song to Rockin' Bethlehem in support of Camperdown Children's Hospital. Brad Shepherd replaced Eaton and the band covered Kiss for Hard to Believe: A Kiss Covers Compilation. Dave Steel replaced Shepard as a live guitarist and in 1990 they covered Russell Morris's "Sweet, Sweet Love" for Used and Recovered By... RRR. In 1991 the lineup changed to be Crowe, Steve Waters, Christian Powers, Lara Goodridge and Tim Seckold. The band released EPs in 1992 and 1993.
