Karnataka Lingayat Education Society (KLE Society) was founded by "Seven Dedicated Teachers or Saptharishis" in 1916 headquartered at Belagavi, KLE Society runs over 250 educational institutions in Karnataka and Maharashtra. On 13 November 1916, KLE Society started an Anglo Vernacular School in Belagavi. [1] Lingaraj College came into existence in June 1933. In 1947, B.V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology was started in Hubballi. Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College at Belagavi and Gudleppa Hallikeri College at Haveri were started in 1963. KLE also runs the KLE engineering college in Belagavi, established in 1979. [2] From 1984 onwards, KLE Society started dental, education, nursing, information technology, computer applications, hotel management, business management, tourism, fashion design, and agriculture colleges, as well as polytechnics across India. Its health care institutions include the super-specialty KLE Society's Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre at Belagavi. Today under the leadership of Prabhakar Kore, the KLE Society runs 256 institutions.

History

In 1947, the government of Bombay Province made attempts to establish a university in Bombay Karnataka. As per the resolution No. 7914 of Education and Industries Department, the government of Bombay, a committee was constituted on 17 April 1947 to make recommendations regarding form, scope, constitution and jurisdiction of a university for Karnataka. (which meant Bombay Karnataka because Bombay Karnataka was a southern part of Bombay Province). The Karnataka University came into existence in 1949.

It came into existence in the year 1998 to cater the needs of Indian industries for trained technical manpower with practical experience and sound theoretical knowledge. Belagavi district, formerly also known as Belgaum district, is a district in the state of Karnataka, India. The district is known as the sugar bowl of Karnataka with 150,000 hectares being used for commercial production. It has overtaken Mandya district in sugarcane production over the last decade. The city of Belgaum (Belagavi) is the district headquarters in Belagavi district. It houses the Second legislative building, where the Karnataka Legislature hold session once a year. The district is famous for its native sweet, Kunda. Bailhongal is a Taluk in Belagavi district of Karnataka state in southern India. Bailhongal Taluk is located towards the north-east part of Belagavi. The taluk headquarters is about 44 km from the district headquarters. The total geographical area of the taluk is 1122.40 km2. There are 126 revenue villages and 14 hamlets with a total population of 356,400 people, according to the 2001 census.

Karnatak Lingayat Education Technological University, formerly known as B. V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology (BVBCET), colloquially the BVBCollege, is a private university in Hubli-Dharwad, Karnataka, India. It was upgraded to a university under the KLE Technological University Act, 2012. The school was founded by the KLE Society, Belgaum, in 1947.

Raja Lakhamagouda Sardesai (1864–1942) was an Indian philanthropist, first Barrister-at-Law from Karnataka and a ruler of Vantamuri princely state in Belagavi district. He was the 16th ruler of Vantamuri princely state. He ascended the throne at the age of 13 years in 1877. The princely state had a Wada at Vantamuri which was built by Prabhu Basavantrao and it was submerged in 1978-79 when a dam was constructed at Hidkal.

The Raja Lakhamagouda Science Institute is an autonomous education institution run by Karnatak Lingayat Education Society in Belagavi city. It was established in 1935 and was named after the head of the former princely state Vantamuri, Raja Lakhamagouda Saradesai in 1941 who had donated 20,000 to the institute. Initially, the institute was a part of Lingaraj Arts college, Belagavi. It started as a science wing in Lingaraj Arts college, and was separated in 1958. In 1944, the noble laureate Sir C. V. Raman inaugurated the degree course in science in the institute.

Rao Bahadur Rudragouda Aratal was a Deputy Collector of Belgaum in the British Government. He is also a founder of KLE Society which was established in 1916. One of the revenue administrative report mentions Aratal in this way The entire credit of eradicating corruption from the Revenue department, goes to Rao Bahaddur R.C.Aratal
