Kasthuri or Kasturi is a major Kannada monthly family magazine [4] published in Karnataka, India, with headquarters in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It is also published in Mangaluru, Gulbarga, Davangere, and Hubli. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]
Kasthuri covers topics like society, Kannada poetry, science fiction, spirituality, health, travel, technology, cookery, book review, beauty. It publishes a large number of editorial cartoon, on politics and society. [11] [12]
The magazine is subscribed to by educational institutions such as Tumkur University, [13] JSS College of Arts, Commerce & Science, [14] Kuvempu University, [15] Mysore University, [16] [17] Mangalore University, [18] and Gulbarga University [19] etc.
Kasthuri (RNI:Reg.No.3633/1957) [20] was first published in 1921. [3] Ranganath Ramchandra Diwakar, a former president of the KPCC, [21] established the ′Loka Shikshana Trust′ (meaning: World Education Trust) [22] on 27 April 1933, which publishes both Kasthuri and Karmaveera, a weekly Kannada magazine. Karnataka, also known colloquially as Karunāḍu, is a state in the southwestern region of India. It was formed as Mysore State on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act, and renamed Karnataka in 1973. Kuppalli Venkatappa Puttappa, popularly known by his pen name Kuvempu, was an Indian poet, playwright, novelist and critic. He is widely regarded as the greatest Kannada poet of the 20th century. He was the first Kannada writer to receive the Jnanpith Award.
The University of Mysore is a public state university in Mysore, Karnataka, India. The university was founded during the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and the premiership of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission for offering higher studies degree courses on-campus as well as online. It was inaugurated on 27 July 1916. Its first chancellor was the maharaja himself; the first Vice-Chancellor was H. V. Nanjundaiah. This was the first university outside of British administered Indian provinces, the sixth in the Indian subcontinent as a whole, and the first in Karnataka. It is a state university of the affiliating type, and was deemed autonomous within the Republic of India on 3 March 1956, when it gained recognition from the University Grants Commission.
The History of Karnataka goes back several millennia. Several great empires and dynasties have ruled over Karnataka and have contributed greatly to the history, culture and development of Karnataka as well as the entire Indian subcontinent. The Chindaka Nagas of central India Gangas, Rashtrakutas of Manyakheta, Chalukyas of Vengi, Yadava Dynasty of Devagiri were all of Kannada origin who later took to encouraging local languages.
Kokkare Hosahalli Shekh Haider Nissar Ahmed was an Indian poet and writer in the Kannada language. He was awarded the Padma Shri (2008), the Rajyotsava Award (1981) and the Pampa award for his work (2017). He became a household name for his work Nityotsava, which is a poem about Karnataka, a piece he composed after seeing Jog falls. He has numerous poems, translations and children's books to his credit. He is known for using simple words that resonate deeply with the public in his literary work.
Udayavani is a Kannada daily newspaper with editions from Manipal, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hubballi, Davanagere and Gulbarga. Launched in January 1970 by Mohandas Pai and T. Satish U Pai, Udayavani with a combined about 300,000 copies as per ABC Jun–Dec 2019. It is widely read in coastal Karnataka. It has also substantial circulation in Bengaluru and other centers.
Sanjevani is a major Kannada afternoon newspaper has its headquarters in Bangalore, Karnataka. It was started on 10 December 1982, thus completing 25 years in 2007. Sanjevani was the first South Indian language newspaper to be put onto the World Wide Web in the year 1998, and was chosen "No. 1 Kannada Newspaper" by a Microsoft survey in 2001. As of 2010, Sanjevani is published in 10 different centers in the state, becoming the first Kannada daily to do so. In April 2010, a mobile version of their website was launched.
Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate, Jaya he Karnataka Maate is a Kannada-language poem composed by Kuvempu. The poem was officially declared the state anthem of the Indian state of Karnataka in 2004.

He is credited with adapting Kuvempu's magnum opus Malegalalli madumagalu into a 9-hour play. He has also written the screenplay for the films Kalavu and Suryakaanti.
