Kuvempu University is a public state university in Shankaraghattta, Bhadravathi taluk, Shivamogga, Karnataka, India. It was established in 1987 by the act of the Karnataka state legislature through amendment No. 28/1976 dated 29 January 1989 under the Karnataka State University Act 1976. [2] The university offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in wide range of disciplines. It was recognized by the UGC in 1994 and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). [3] [4] [5]
The university has its headquarters at Jnana Sahyadri Campus, Shivamogga. Its campus is called Jnana Sahyadri, which means 'The Western Ghat section of knowledge'. It has university jurisdiction over malnad districts of Shivamogga and Chikmagaluru, through which the Sahyadri mountain ranges pass. The campus sprawls across an area of 230 acres. [6] The campus has an admixture of wild and domestic animals.

Established on 29 June 1987, Kuvempu University is the youngest of the affiliating universities in Karnataka State. It was named after the great Kannada writer, Kuvempu, Jnanpith laureate & doyen of Kannada literature. He was native of Shivamogga district and vice-chancellor of University of Mysore. Kuvempu hailed from the Malenadu region. He enunciated the statement 'Vishwamanawasandesha' — A word of advice on the doctrine of Universal Manhood. True to its form and nature the university had adopted Kannada as the administrative and official language.
Kuvempu's son-in-law K. Chidananda Gowda was the vice-chancellor from 2001 to 2006. The current vice-chancellor is Dr. B. P. Veerabhadrappa. [7]
The university has 59 post-graduate departments of studies in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education and Law offering 45 post-graduate (PG) programmes, four PG diplomas(regular) and one undergraduate programme. There are many colleges affiliated to this university offering undergraduate courses in the above-mentioned faculties.
The academic wedge on the main campus houses the post-graduate departments of studies in English, Political Science, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, MSW, Economics, Sociology, English Language Teaching, Journalism and Mass Communication.
The department of Sanskrit was moved out of Janasahyadri campus in Shankaraghatta village into the Sahyadri College in Shivamogga City due to lack of student strength. The VC insisted the course to run as he was reluctant to squander an Arts course to non-existence despite socially valued in urban places. The university has a strict mandate to close a course if a minimum number of students don't buy seats for a number of years from the state government.
Library & Information Science is in the Library departments and in Computer Science Departments Mathematics, MCA and Electronics. Pharmaceutical Chemistry has started on the premises of Govt. Junior College.
A new Post-Graduate Centre at Kadur started from the academic year 2007–08 with three courses: Master of Business Economics (MBE), Master of Business Administration (MBA) and M.Sc. To establish the PG Centre at Kadur, the State Government allotted 65 acres (260,000 m2) of land adjacent to Kadur town and released Rs.2 crore for the development of the P.G. Centre. [8] A B.Sc. ITIM course that focuses on IT Infrastructure Management was introduced in Distance Mode in 2002. This is aligned to the needs of the rapidly growing IMS industry. [9]
The library offers facilities for reading, borrowing, and reference to the students, teachers and research scholars of all departments. Over 70,000 books and 4,000 archived periodicals are available. The library has kept pace with technology by introducing a CD-ROM database and Internet and e-mail facilities. The library provides facilities for self-directed student learning outside standard university hours. [10]
Kuvempu University NSS section is a part of the Karnataka State. [11] There is a programme coordinator whose office is presently housed in front of the Sahyadri College, Shivamogga. The NSS wing provides training to undergraduate students by organising annual camps, national camps, and socially useful programmes. It coordinates the adult literacy programmes in which the students participate actively. The post-graduate unit of NSS has students from the post-graduate departments on the campus. It is supervised by a co-ordinator (from the faculty) and his team.

Jadavpur University is a public state funded research and technology university with its main campus located at Jadavpur, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was established in 1906 as Bengal Technical Institute and was converted into Jadavpur University in 1955. As of 2023 NIRF rankings, Jadavpur University has been ranked 4th among universities, 10th among engineering institutes, and 13th overall in India. The university has been recognized by UGC as an institute with "Potential for Excellence" and accredited an "A" grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is a technical university located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. It is the second oldest engineering institution in India, and was founded as the College of Civil Engineering in North-Western Provinces in 1847 by the Lieutenant-Governor, James Thomason, in order to train officers and surveyors employed in the construction of the Ganges Canal. In 1854 , after the completion of the canal and Thomason's death, it was renamed the Thomason College of Civil Engineering by Proby Cautley, the designer and projector of the canal. It was renamed University of Roorkee in 1949, and again renamed IIT Roorkee in 2001. The institution has 22 academic departments covering Engineering, Applied Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences and Management programs with an emphasis on scientific and technological education and research.
The University of Calcutta is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It has 151 affiliated undergraduate colleges and 16 institutes in Kolkata and nearby areas. It was established on 24 January 1857 and is the oldest multidisciplinary university of Indian Subcontinent and South East Asian Region. Today, the university's jurisdiction is limited to a few districts of West Bengal, but at the time of its establishment it had a catchment area ranging from Kabul to Myanmar. Within India, it is recognized as a "Five-Star University" and accredited an "A" grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Panjab University (PU) is an Indian collegiate public state university located in Chandigarh. Funded through both State and Union governments, it is considered a state university. It traces its origins to the University of the Punjab in Lahore, which was founded in 1882. After the partition of India, the university was established on 1 October 1947, and called East Punjab University. Initially housed primarily at a cantonment in Solan, it later relocated to a newly built campus in Chandigarh, and was renamed Panjab University. It is accredited by NAAC at five star level, with the highest NAAC A++ accreditation grade.
B.M.S. College of Engineering or Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah College of Engineering (BMSCE) is a private engineering college in Basavanagudi, Bangalore, India. It was started in 1946 by Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah and is run by the B.M.S. Educational Trust. It is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University and became autonomous in 2008. BMSCE is located on Bull Temple Road, Basavanagudi, diagonally opposite to the famous Bull Temple. Though a private college, it is partially funded by the Government of Karnataka.
Banasthali Vidyapith is a university located in the Tonk district of the Rajasthan state in India. It is a deemed university offering programs at the secondary, senior secondary, undergraduate, and postgraduate degree levels.
University of Vishveshvarayya College of Engineering (UVCE) was established in 1917, under the name Government Engineering College, by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Vishveshvarayya. It is the 5th engineering college to be established in the country and 1st in Karnataka. UVCE is one of the few technical institutions in the country that is vested with the status of a university and autonomy on the lines of IITs. It is one of the oldest technical institutions in the country, imparting technical education leading to B.Tech., B. Arch., M.Tech., M. Arch. and PhD degrees in the various disciplines of Engineering and Architecture. The college is approved by the AICTE and the Government of Karnataka. UVCE has secured an NAAC accreditation score of 3.75. UVCE, while a constituent college of Bangalore University until 2022, secured an NIRF ranking of 64. The college used to receive financial aid under the TEQIP program from the World Bank.
The University of Mysore is a public state university in Mysore, Karnataka, India. The university was founded during the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and the premiership of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission for offering higher studies degree courses on-campus as well as online. It was inaugurated on 27 July 1916. Its first chancellor was the maharaja himself; the first Vice-Chancellor was H. V. Nanjundaiah. This was the first university outside of British administered Indian provinces, the sixth in the Indian subcontinent as a whole, and the first in Karnataka. It is a state university of the affiliating type, and was deemed autonomous within the Republic of India on 3 March 1956, when it gained recognition from the University Grants Commission.
Jamia Millia Islamia is a premier central university located in New Delhi, India. Originally established at Aligarh, United Provinces during the British Empire in 1920, it moved to its current location in Okhla in 1935. It was given the deemed status by University Grants Commission in 1962. Jamia Millia Islamia became a central university in the year 1988 by an act of the Indian Parliament which was passed on December 26, 1988.
Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering is an autonomous private engineering college in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. It was established in 1963 under the Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust (RSST) and was one of the earliest self-financing engineering colleges in the country. It is affiliated with the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. In 2008, the college was given autonomous status.
JSS Science and Technology University, or in its full name Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Science and Technology University, formerly Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), is a state private university located in Mysore, Karnataka, India. Established in 1963 as SJCE has 12 departments in engineering, a Master of Computer Applications department. It was affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, but now it's a part of JSS Science and Technology University from 2016 - 2017 academic year. SJCE is accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), all its departments are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). It was founded and is managed by the JSS Mahavidyapeetha.
Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, formerly Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College (MNREC), is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology, located in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh in India. The college has the distinction of being the first in the country to start an undergraduate programme in Computer Science & Engineering, in 1976–77.
Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal is a public technical university located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is part of a group of publicly funded institutions in India known as National Institutes of Technology. It is named after the Independent India's first Minister of Education (India), scholar and independence activist Abul Kalam Azad who is commonly remembered as Maulana Azad.
Jamia Hamdard is an institute of higher education deemed to be university located in New Delhi, India. Established in 1989, it is a government-funded university and was formally inaugurated by then Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. In 2019, it was awarded Institute of Eminence status by Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Ahmadjon kotman den endi o'zgartirolladimmi formerly KIIT University, is a private deemed university located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.
