Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University (KSRDPRU) is a state university [1] located at Gadag district, Karnataka, India. It was established in 2016 by the Government of Karnataka under the Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University Act, 2016 [2] to focus on education towards rural development.

History

The decision of the Government of Karnataka to set up the university was announced in July 2013. An expert committee was constituted in December 2013, which was supposed to submit its recommendations in May 2014. [3] However, the report was only submitted in February 2015. [4] The Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University Bill, 2016 was passed in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in March 2016, [5] and in the Karnataka Legislative Council in July 2016. [6] The university was inaugurated in March 2018 by chief minister Siddaramaiah, and started operating from the district administration building. [7] 400 acres of land and 169 crore (US$21 million) were provided by the government of Karnataka for constructing a permanent campus. [7] The first vice-chancellor (VC) of the university was B. Thimme Gowda, formerly VC of Bangalore University, [8] which was in office until he retired in March 2018. [9] In May 2020, Vishnukant S. Chatpalli was appointed VC. [10]

Upon his death, The New York Times had described him as one of India's most popular movie stars.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kannada cinema</span> Kannada language film industry

Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. The 1934 film Sati Sulochana directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and was the first motion picture screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. The film was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji, who in 1932 founded South India Movietone in Bangalore.

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), previously spelled Visveswaraiah Technological University, is a collegiate public state university in Belagavi, Karnataka established by the Government of Karnataka. All colleges in the State of Karnataka imparting education in Engineering or Technology, except those that have the consent of VTU and sanction of the Government, are required to be affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. The university is named after Sir M. Visvesvaraya, an Indian civil engineer, statesman and the 19th Diwan of Mysore. VTU is one of the largest technical university which provide opportunities for engineering students and management students.

The Government of Karnataka, abbreviated as GoK, or simply Karnataka Government, formerly Government of Mysore, is a democratically elected state body with the governor as the ceremonial head to govern the Southwest Indian state of Karnataka. The Bengaluru International Film Festival, is an annual film festival held in Bengaluru, the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka, which previews films of all genres including documentaries from around the world. Founded in 1996, Suchitra Bangalore International Film Festival, was held for a week from 22 to 28 December 2006 in collaboration with Suchitra Film Society. More than 100 films were screened during festival.

He gained recognition through 2017's commercial success Ondu Motteya Kathe and further through Gubbi Mele Brahmastra (2019) and Maayabazar 2016 (2020), he got widespread acclaim through Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana (2021).

Basavaraddi Rangaraddi Yavagal is an Indian politician from Karnataka. He is the Ex. member of legislative assembly from Naragund assembly constituency, Karnataka. Yavagal has been the five term member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and has held the position of minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and the minister for State Housing, Karnataka Government.

Syed Mohid Altaf is an advocate by profession, educationist, politician from Karnataka and former Special representative of the Government of Karnataka to the Union Government.

Chintan Vikas is an Indian playback singer, keyboard programmer, percussionist, vocal arranger, dubbing artiste and theatre activist, known for his works in Kannada. For his song Saahore Saahore in the film Gajakesari, Chintan Vikas won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer in 2014.
