Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi is a Pakistani former cricketer and captain of the Pakistan national cricket team. An all-rounder, Afridi was a right-handed leg spinner and a right-handed batsman.
Mohamed Farveez Maharoof, or Farveez Maharoof, is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer, who played Tests and ODIs. He first made his impression in the 2004 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in which he captained the Sri Lankan team. He enjoyed a prolific school career for Wesley College, with a highest score of 243 and best bowling figures of 8 for 20. An all-rounder, he made his Test debut in 2004. He was part of the Sri Lankan team which finished as runners-up at the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

It was the biggest cricket tournament in the country, played during the northern winter calendar, mostly in the month of December. It was played in round-robin format in which top four teams qualify for the playoffs. The tournament was renowned for having high attendance among the domestic cricket of the ICC associate nations. The first edition of the tournament was held in September 2016 with six franchises consisting of domestic and international players. Chitwan Tigers are the defending champions after winning the 2021 season.

The tournament was scheduled to be held from 18 December 2017 to 30 December 2017. The tournament featured six teams and their names were based on the cities.

The tournament was held from 8 December 2018 to 22 December 2018. Biratnagar Warriors were defending champions for the tournament but they were eliminated in the group stage. Lalitpur Patriots won the 2018 season and it's their first title.

He made his List A debut for Sri Lanka, against Oman, in the Emerging Teams Cup on 14 November 2019. Prior to his List A debut, he was named in Sri Lanka's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Later the same month, he was named in Sri Lanka's squad for the men's cricket tournament at the 2019 South Asian Games. The Sri Lanka team won the silver medal, after they lost to Bangladesh by seven wickets in the final.
Lalitpur Patriots was a professional cricket franchise team based in Lalitpur, Nepal, which participated in the Everest Premier League. Founded in 2017, the team was owned by Kishore Maharjan and Srijana Joshi Maharjan. They won the 2018 edition of the league defeating Bhairahawa Gladiators by 14 runs, under the leadership of captain Gyanendra Malla. As of November 2018, Raju Basnyat was the head coach for the franchise. The team was captained by Kushal Bhurtel in 2021.

Five teams based on various Sri Lankan cities played a total of 23 matches. It was originally scheduled to start in August but was rescheduled several times due to restrictions for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Colombo Strikers, formerly known as Colombo Stars and Colombo Kings, is a franchise Twenty20 cricket team based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, that competes in the Lanka Premier League. In the inaugural season, Murfad Mustafa was the owner of the franchise. The team was supposed to be coached by former Australian cricketer Dav Whatmore. However he pulled out ahead of the 2020 Lanka Premier League for personal reasons and was replaced by former English cricketer Kabir Ali. Kabir Ali was again replaced by Herschelle Gibbs after he tested positive for COVID-19. Angelo Mathews was announced as the icon player and Andre Russell was named as the marquee foreign player.In June 2021, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) terminated the franchise ahead of the 2021 Lanka Premier League, due to financial issues.
The Galle Gladiators is a franchise cricket team which played in the inaugural season of the Lanka Premier League. The team is based in Galle, Southern Province, Sri Lanka. The team remained under the captaincy of Pakistani cricketer, Shahid Afridi, for the first three matches. However, due to an emergency, the captain left the league for the remaining matches of the tournament, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa assumed the captaincy. The team was coached by Pakistani cricket coach Moin Khan. The team is owned by Pakistani organizer Nadeem Omar, who also owns the Pakistan Super League's Quetta Gladiators.
