Career

Kasum started his career in film making as a motion graphics designer at Wale Adenuga Productions. He also worked as a producer in an advertising company. [2] His first feature film, Dognapped and Nigeria's first live action animation film, was released in 2017. [3] He however gained popularity for his film titled Oga Bolaji which was released in 2018 and has made other Nollywood productions including Sugar Rush and Toyin Abraham's Fate of Alakada . [1] Kayode has shot as director 10,860+ minutes of MNET's telenovela series Unbroken and Riona . [4] [5] His filmography as a director includes films - Sugar Rush (2019), This Lady Called Life (2020), Kambili - The Whole 30 yards (2020), Quams Money, Castle and Castle S2, Soole (2021) and his first psychological horror Ile Owo (House of Money) (2022). He is also the 4th top highest grossing film director in Nigeria grossing over ₦767m.

Kasum is credited with directing Nigeria’s first live-action animated movie and one of Nigeria’s highest-grossing films ever. [1] [6]

He was nominated for The Future Awards Africa 2019 prize for Film making and was listed as one of the top Nollywood film directors of 2020. [1] [7] In 2023, he was recognized for directing Something Like Gold , Afamefuna and Far From Home.

The film stars Toyin Abraham, Mercy Eke and Broda Shaggi in the lead roles. This was the fifth film in the Alakada franchise and it was also the sequel to the 2017 comedy film Alakada Reloaded. The film is based on poking fun at social media fakeness and the current Nigerian pop culture. The film had its theatrical release on 1 October 2020 coinciding with the Independence Day of Nigeria and opened to extremely positive reviews.
