Kent Street in Perth, Western Australia is a major access road to many facilities and places like Curtin University and the Perth Hockey Stadium.
Kent Street is approximately 4.1 kilometres (2.5 mi) in length, [1] running south-west from Albany Highway through to Manning Road. Kent Street forms the boundary between the City of South Perth and the Town of Victoria Park.
The Park Recreation Centre (Leisurelife Centre) is located at the northern end of the road, at its intersection with Gloucester Street. [2] The Park Recreation Centre being the main indoor recreation centre for the Town of Victoria Park. Kent Street is also the street address for Kent Street Senior High School, which was the first state government school to be built south of the Swan River.
Kent Street also runs through the centre of Technology Park Bentley, [3] which houses a number of innovative Research and Development based organisations, including Perth's CSIRO building and one of Australia Post's major freight factories.
Curtin University is also located on Kent Street. [4] Curtin University is Western Australia's largest university [5] with over 40,000 students.
The Karawara (Village Green) Shopping Centre is located at the southern end of Kent Street, on the north-western side of its intersection with Manning Road. [6]
A number of parks and reserves front onto Kent Street, including Kensington Bushland Reserve. John McMillan Park, Harold Rossiter Park, Barblett Oval and Endiburgh Oval. The Collier Park Golf Course is also located along Kent Street.
Kent Street is a dual carriageway road between Manning Road and Hayman Road, with a major round-about at that intersection. Road verges in some parts of Kent Street have been set aside for future widening.
Curtin University, formerly known as Curtin University of Technology and Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT), is an Australian public research university based in Bentley, Perth, Western Australia. It is named after John Curtin, Prime Minister of Australia from 1941 to 1945, and is the largest university in Western Australia, with 58,607 students in 2022.
Cottesloe is a western suburb of Perth, Western Australia, within the Town of Cottesloe. Cottesloe was named for Thomas Fremantle, 1st Baron Cottesloe, a prominent Tory politician and the brother of Admiral Sir Charles Fremantle for whom the city of Fremantle was named. Outside of Perth the highway is predominately a sealed, single carriageway with regular overtaking lanes in some undulating areas. Albany Highway commences at The Causeway, a river crossing that connects to Perth's central business district. The highway heads south-east through Perth's metropolitan region, bypassed in part by Shepperton Road and Kenwick Link, and continues south-eastwards through to Albany. It intersects several major roads in Perth, including the Leach, Tonkin, Brookton, and South Western highways. The rural section of Albany Highway connects to important regional roads at the few towns and roadhouses along the route, including Coalfields Highway at Arthur River, Great Southern Highway at Cranbrook, and Muirs Highway at Mount Barker.
