The Kenya national badminton team (Swahili : Timu ya taifa ya Kenya ya badminton) is a badminton team that plays for Kenya in international competitions. [1] It is controlled by Kenya's governing body for the sport, Badminton Kenya. Kenya is one of the first three countries to compete in the inaugural African Badminton Championships in 1979.
In 1979, Kenya emerged as champions of the men's team event at the 1979 African Badminton Championships after defeating Tanzania and Ghana. [2] [3] In that same year, Kenya also competed in the men's team event at the 1979 WBF World Championships and were eliminated in the group stages. The team were also runners-up at the 1980 African Badminton Championships in Beira.
From 2008 to 2012, the team took part in qualifying for the Thomas Cup in the African Zone qualifiers but failed to advance beyond the group stages.
Kenya's were runners-up at the 1979 African Badminton Championships women's team event. In 2010, the team reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 Thomas & Uber Cups Preliminaries for Africa but lost 3–0 to Nigeria. [4]
Kenya were runners-up in the mixed team event at the 1980 African Badminton Championships. In 1982, Kenya competed in the 1982 Commonwealth Games mixed team event. [5] The team fell short and lost to all of their opponents in the Group A tie. [6] In 1998, the team competed in the 1998 African Badminton Championships and finished fourth. [7] In 2003, the team competed in the 2003 African Games team event. The team started their campaign with a 5–0 loss to hosts Nigeria. The team then lost to Seychelles by the same margin. [8]
At the Commonwealth Games of 2006, Kenya's national team participated in the mixed team competition but did not advance further from the group stage. [9] Four years later, the team made their third appearance at the Commonwealth Games mixed team event. The team finished on the bottom of their group. [10] In participating in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Kenya's national team was ranked the 18th seed for their competition. They finished last place within Pool B. [11]
At the 2019 Sudirman Cup, while Kenya was scheduled to participate, the team unexpectedly withdrew. [12] As part of an effort to improve the country's performance, Kenya sent 290 athletes to the 2019 African Games. As part of this effort, the Kenya national badminton team participated in the badminton events. [13]

The Indonesia National Badminton Team represents Indonesia in international badminton team competitions and is controlled by the Badminton Association of Indonesia, the governing body for badminton in Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the only two countries beside China who has won all badminton discipline in the Olympic Games.
The Nigeria national badminton team represents Nigeria in international badminton team competitions. It is managed by the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, the governing body of badminton in Nigeria. Nigeria was one of the seven African countries that formed the Badminton Confederation of Africa on 31 August 1977. The country first competed in the African Badminton Championships in 1980.
The Australia national badminton team, also known as The Falcons, represents Australia in international badminton team competitions. The team is controlled by Badminton Australia, the leading authority for badminton in the country. The team's history dates back to 1900, with the establishment of Badminton Australia in 1932 leading to the formation of the national team. The Falcons made their international debut in the 1955 Thomas Cup.
Ocholi Abel Edicha is a Nigerian badminton player. He was the men's singles gold medalist at the 2003 All-Africa Games, also in the mixed team event in 2007. He competed at the 2002 and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The 2019 Sudirman Cup was the 16th edition of the Sudirman Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the mixed national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF), since its inception in 1989. The tournament was played in Nanning, China, between 19 and 26 May 2019. Korea is the defending champion.
Soh Wooi Yik is a Malaysian badminton player. A world champion and a double bronze medalist at the Olympic Games, he and his partner Aaron Chia became the first ever world badminton champions from Malaysia after winning the men's doubles title at the 2022 World Championships. Together, they also won a gold medal at the 2019 SEA Games, a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Championships, as well as bronze medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics, 2022 Commonwealth Games, 2023 World Championships 2022 Asian Games, 2024 Asian Championships, and 2024 Summer Olympics. They are also the first Malaysian men’s doubles pair to win consecutive medals at the Olympic Games.
The Algeria national badminton team represents Algeria in international badminton team competitions. The team made their first-ever appearance at the Thomas Cup in 2018. The Algerian team have never qualified for the Uber Cup and the Sudirman Cup.
The Egypt national badminton team represents Egypt in international badminton team competitions. The team is controlled by the Egyptian Badminton Federation, the governing body for badminton in Egypt.
The Mauritius national badminton team represents Mauritius in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Mauritius Badminton Association, the governing body of badminton in Mauritius.
The Belarus national badminton team represents Belarus in international badminton team competitions. The Belarusian team is managed by the Belarusian Badminton Federation (BBF) which organizes badminton championships and prepares Belarusian national badminton teams. The team was formed in 1992 after the association was found.
The Morocco national badminton team represents Morocco in international badminton team competitions. The team is controlled by the Moroccan Royal Badminton Federation, the governing body of badminton in Morocco.
The Ghana national badminton team represents Ghana in international badminton team competitions. Ghana Badminton is the national governing body of the sport representing every member of the badminton community in Ghana.
The Zambia national badminton team represents Zambia in international badminton team competitions. The team is controlled by the Zambia Badminton Association.
The Uganda national badminton team represents Uganda in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Uganda Badminton Association, the governing body for Ugandan badminton.

Barbados have never medaled at the Pan American Badminton Championships. The Barbadian mixed team started participating in the Commonwealth Games mixed team event since 2010.

The Réunion national badminton team represents Réunion, an overseas department and region of France, in international team competitions. The team is controlled by Ligue Nouvelle du Badminton Réunionnais, the governing body of badminton in the region.
The Ethiopia national badminton team represents Ethiopia in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Ethiopian Badminton Federation, the governing body for badminton in Ethiopia. The team was formed in the late 1990s following the establishment of the Ethiopian Badminton Federation.
The 2021 Sudirman Cup was the 17th edition of the Sudirman Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the mixed national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF), since its inception in 1989. The tournament was played in Vantaa, Finland, between 26 September and 3 October 2021. China were the defending champions. They successfully defended their title, lifting the trophy for a record-extending 12th time.
Ng Tze Yong is a Malaysian badminton player. Ng won a bronze medal at the 2021 Sudirman Cup. He also helped Malaysian team to win gold at the 2022 Badminton Asia Team Championships and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
