The Kenya International is an annual open international badminton tournament held in Kenya. This tournament is organized by the Kenya Badminton Association, with the sanctioned by the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) and Badminton World Federation (BWF).
In 1965, badminton is already played by the Kenyan people, when the Kenya Gazette implied the change of the name of Nairobi Badminton Association to Kenya Badminton Association. [1] This tournament is one of the oldest badminton tournament in Africa, and established before the BCA was founded in 1977, which the former All England Open champion, Punch Gunalan of Malaysia, won the men's doubles title in 1972. [2] [3] In 2006, the tournament was a Future Series event, and since 2009 upgrading to International Series with the total prize money $5,000. [4] In 2008, the tournament was held at the Premier Club in Nairobi, with players from ten countries compete. [5] In 2009, it was held at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani, in the same time with African Badminton Championships. [6] [7] The Moi Sports Centre continues to host the tournament, [8] [9] and in 2014, was moved to Safaricom Stadium Kasarani. [10]

Nairobi is the capital and largest city of Kenya. The name is derived from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nairobi, which translates to 'place of cool waters', a reference to the Nairobi River which flows through the city. The city proper had a population of 4,397,073 in the 2019 census. The city is commonly referred to as The Green City in the Sun.
Kenyatta University (KU) is a public research university with its main campus in Nairobi, Kenya. It acquired the status of university in 1985, being the third university after University of Nairobi (1970) and Moi University (1984). The Moi International Sports Centre is a multi-purpose stadium in Kasarani, Kenya. It was built in 1987 for the All-Africa Games held in Nairobi. The facilities include a 60,000-seat stadium with a running track and a pitch used for football and rugby union, a competition size swimming pool, an indoor arena and a 108-bed capacity hotel. Located at 1,612 metres above sea level, it is slightly above 1 mile in altitude.
Nyayo National Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Nairobi, Kenya. It is located at the square of Mombasa Road, Langata Road and the Aerodrome Road. It is approximately two kilometers from the City Center, directly opposite Nairobi Mega Mall, formerly known as Nakumatt Mega. The stadium was built in 1983 for a capacity of 15,000. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The popular AFC Leopards football club plays most of its home games at Nyayo stadium. The stadium is also used for athletics, swimming and various ceremonies most common of which are National Holiday celebrations. Other facilities at the Nyayo Stadium include a gymnasium and a 50-metre swimming pool. Rugby union club Mwamba RFC used the Nyayo National Stadium for home games.
The Safari Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament held in Nairobi, Kenya. The Safari Sevens is open to international representative sides, professional and amateur clubs, invitational teams, university and school teams.
Datuk Punch Gunalan was a Malaysian badminton player, who achieved success in both singles and doubles competitions.
The African Badminton Championships is a tournament organized by the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) to crown the best badminton players in Africa. For the team event there is the African Badminton Cup of Nations. This is not to be confused with the All African Games, the multi sports event, held every four years where badminton is included since 2003.

The Africa Military Games was a multi-sport event for military athletes in Africa. The games was hosted by Kenya in and around Nairobi between 17 and 27 April 2002.

Group F of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification tournament was one of the twelve groups to decide the teams which qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals tournament. The group consisted of four teams: Ghana, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, and Kenya, before Sierra Leone's disqualification.
The 2017 IAAF World U18 Championships was the tenth and last edition of the biennial international athletics competition for youth (under-18) athletes. The five-day competition took place between 12 and 16 July at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. Eligible athletes were aged 16 or 17 on 31 December 2017.
The Lagos International also known as Lagos International Badminton Classics is an annual open international badminton tournament held in Lagos, Nigeria. This tournament established since 2014, organized by the Lagos State Badminton Association (LSBA) and Badminton Federation of Nigeria. The tournament sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), and has grade as BWF International Challenge level with the total prize money $15,000. The classics is expected to help Nigerian players to improve their world ranking as well as play against some of the top rated players in the world, and it is also an opportunity to showcase the positive side of Lagos and Nigeria. It is also an intervention programme of the Lagos State Government, it is a series of international open sporting events geared towards attracting the best continental and global sports talents to the shores of the region. The Lagos State Government believes that the tournament is part of series of international sports events that will bring world stars to the state.
The 2021 CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers is the 1st edition of the CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers, a women's club football championship organised by the CECAFA for the women's clubs of association nations. This edition will held from 7–21 August 2021 in Kenya.
Roysambu is a commercial and residential suburb of the city of Nairobi. Located within the larger Kasarani area, it is approximately 11 kilometres (7 mi) northeast of Nairobi's central business district off Thika Road. The neighbourhood is a high-density, hosting the lower middle income to low income segment of the Nairobi residents.
Talanta Sports Stadium, also Talanta Sports City is a sports stadium under construction, in the city of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. It is intended to be used during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament. The stadium is one of the stadia that Kenya plans to use during the tournament, that will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.
The 2009 African Badminton Championships were the continental badminton championships to crown the best players and teams across Africa. The tournament was held at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, from 17 to 24 April 2009.
