Michelle Claire Edwards (born 11 July 1974) is a South African badminton player.

Contents

Career

Edwards played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics, losing to Aparna Popat of India in the round of 32 in the women's singles. In the women's doubles, Edwards and her partner Chantal Botts were defeated by Nicole Grether and Juliane Schenk of Germany in the round of 32. [1]

In 2007, she won 3 medals in badminton at the 2007 All-Africa Games, a gold medal in women's doubles with Chantal Botts, a silver medal in women's singles, and a bronze medal in mixed doubles.

She also participated in the Summer Olympic Games of 2008 and 2012 in the women's doubles event. At the 2008 Summer Olympics she competed with Chantal Botts, they lost to Taipei in the first round. [1] In the 2012 Summer Olympics, her partner was Annari Viljoen. Together, they reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to the Russian pair of Valeria Sorokina and Nina Vislova. [2]

Christoffel Cornelius Dednam is a badminton player from South Africa. Dednam was the gold medallists at the 2003 All-Africa Games in the mixed doubles event, and in 2007 in the men's doubles event. He competed at the 2004, 2008 Olympic Games, and at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Dednam played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's singles, losing in the round of 32 to Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand. He also competed in mixed doubles with partner Antoinette Uys. Together with her brother Sam Magee, she clinched a bronze medal at the 2017 European Championships, became Ireland's first medal at the European Badminton Championship. The duo also captured the bronze medals at the 2015 and 2019 European Games.

Misaki Matsutomo is a Japanese badminton player who is a doubles specialist. She won the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic women's doubles alongside Ayaka Takahashi. Despite playing doubles, she was also a finalist in girls' singles at the 2010 BWF World Junior Championships in Mexico.

Grace Kubi Daniel is a Nigerian badminton player. She defeated South Africa's Michelle Claire Edwards for the gold medal in the women's singles, and also, teamed up with Susan Ideh for a silver in the doubles at the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria.

Kerry-Lee Harrington is a South African badminton player. She won a bronze medal, along with her partner Stacy Doubell, in the women's doubles at the 2007 All-Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria. Harrington represented South Africa at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where she competed in the women's singles. She received a bye for the second preliminary round match, before losing out to Malaysia's Wong Mew Choo, with a score of 4–21 each in two straight periods.

Tania Ann Luiz is an Australian badminton player. At the age of nine, Luiz moved with her family to Melbourne, Australia. She started playing badminton three years later, and went on to represent Australia at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, coincidentally in her home city. She defeated South Africa's Michelle Edwards and Fiji's Karyn Whiteside in the preliminary rounds, before losing out her third match to New Zealand's Rachel Hindley, with a score of 7–21 and 12–21.

Rachel Honderich is a Canadian badminton player from Toronto, Ontario. She has been one of the top ranked women's individual and doubles player on the continent and a contender in major international competitions. She is a vice-national champion in women's singles and has won several international titles since 2010.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kate Foo Kune</span> Mauritian badminton player (born 1993)

Kate Jessica Kim Lee Foo Kune is a badminton player from Mauritius. She began playing badminton in Mauritius at age six. Her first major tournament participation was 2013 BWF World Championships in China, where she lost in the first round of women's singles to Sarah Walker of England. Foo Kune represented her country at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She was the flag bearer for Mauritius during the Parade of Nations.

Doha Hany Mostafa is an Egyptian badminton player. She started playing badminton at aged five, and joined the national team in 2013. She won the bronze medal at the 2014 African Youth Games, and represented her country at the Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. She was the women's doubles gold medalist at the 2019 African Games. Hany featured in Egypt team that for the first time won the All Africa Women's Team Championships in 2020, also claimed two title in the individual competition by winning the women's and mixed doubles event. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in three different events; women's singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
