Dato' Kesavadas s/o A. Achyuthan Nair [1] is a Malaysian politician who has served as a Senator representing Negeri Sembilan from May 2019 to May 2022 and again since April 2022. He is a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP),a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.
At the party level,Kesavadas was a state vice chairman of DAP of the Negeri Sembilan alongside with Teo Kok Seong from 2021 until 2024. [2]
On 20 March 2019,Kesavadas was elected to the Parliament as the senator representing Negeri Sembilan for the first term after being nominated and approved by the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly. [3] On 19 March 2022,his first 3-year term ended. On 25 April 2022,he was reelected as the senator for the second term after being renominated and reapproved by the assembly.
Kesavadas also discussed the establishment of a Royal Commission of Inquiry regarding the cartel of non-halal imported meat that was detected in 2020 and the government has agreed to set up the commission. [4]
Negeri Sembilan,historically spelled as Negri Sembilan,is a state in Malaysia which lies on the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It borders Selangor on the north,Pahang in the east,and Malacca and Johor to the south.
The Democratic Action Party is a centre-left social democratic political party in Malaysia. As one of four component parties of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition,it formed the federal government after defeating Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 2018 Malaysian general election,ending the party's 53 year-long stay in the opposition. However,before the coalition finished its first term,defections from partnering parties caused it to lose power after 22 months,culminating in the 2020 Malaysian political crisis. At the 2022 Malaysian general election,the PH coalition which the DAP was part of was returned to power again,albeit without a majority,leading it to form a unity government with political rivals. It is one of the four component parties of the Pakatan Harapan ruling coalition in Malaysia.
