Khusniddin Norbekov (born 23 May 1987) is an Uzbekistani Paralympic athlete with cerebral palsy. [2] [3] He is a Paralympic champion at the Summer Paralympics in 2016, 2021 and 2024. He holds five world championships titles in para-athletics.
In 2008 he began to engage in professional sports in his hometown of Navoiy. Starting from 2009, he started to participate in international competitions as a member of the Uzbekistan national team. In 2014, at the Summer Paralympic Games in Incheon, South Korea, he won a gold medal. [4] In 2015, at the World Para Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, he won a gold medal in discus throwing in the F37 category and was awarded a bronze medal in shot put. [5]
In 2016, at the Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he won a gold medal in discus throwing in the F37 category, becoming an Olympic Champion. [6] In shot put, he won a bronze medal in his category at the Paralympic Games. [7] In the same year, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev conferred upon him the title of "Pride of Uzbekistan". In 2017 at the World Para Athletics Championships in London he secured a gold medal in discus throwing and a silver medal in shot put. [11] In 2018, at the Asian Para Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, he won a gold medal. [4] In 2019, at the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, UAE, he won a gold medal and set a world record in shot put with a throw of 17.32 meters in the F37 category. [12]
In 2020, at the Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, he won a gold medal in shot put with a distance of 16.13 meters in the F35 category, becoming a two-time Paralympic champion. [13] [2] In the same year, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev conferred upon him the title of "Merited Athlete of the Republic of Uzbekistan". [3] [14] [15] [16] [17]
Haider Ali is an all-around Pakistani para-athlete who created history at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China by winning Pakistan's first ever Paralympic games medal, a silver. He also shared a new world record with his jump of 6.44 meters at the Games. He has competed at the Paralympics on five occasions in 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024. He has the unique record of winning a country's first ever Paralympic gold, silver and bronze medals as he is the only Pakistani to have won a medal in Paralympic history. On 3 September 2021, he became the first gold medalist for Pakistan at the Paralympics. In the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships, he became the first Pakistani Para athlete to win a medal at the World Para Athletics Championships, a silver.
Bahrain made its Paralympic Games début the same year as its Olympic début, at the 1984 Summer Paralympics in Stoke Mandeville and New York City, sending a delegation to compete in athletics. The country has participated in every subsequent edition of the Summer Paralympics, but has never taken part in the Winter Paralympics.
The 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships was held in Christchurch, New Zealand from January 21 to 30, 2011. Athletes with disabilities competed, and the Championships were a qualifying event for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Mi Na is a Chinese Paralympic athlete who competes in throwing events for F37 classification cerebral palsy athletes.
Amanda Fraser is an Australian Paralympic athlete and swimmer. She has cerebral palsy and competes in the F37 category for the physically impaired. Competing in the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Summer Paralympics, she won two silver and two bronze medals, and in the 2006 World Championships, she won a gold and a silver medal. In the 2006 championships, she set a world record for discus in her classification, and was named 2006 Telstra Female AWD Athlete of the Year by Athletics Australia. Fraser now works as a personal trainer, working with people unfamiliar to a gym environment, especially women. She advocates for women empowerment and aims to help women develop their mental and physical strength.
Xia Dong is a Paralympic athlete from China. He competes in throwing events in the F37 classification.
Damien Alexander Burroughs, is an Australian Paralympic athlete. He won a gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games and participated in the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Paralympics.
Beverley Jones is a Paralympian from Wales competing in category F37 throwing events. Jones won a bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games as an EAD in the 100m sprint. Jones has qualified for four Summer Paralympics from 2000 to 2012 finishing fourth twice, in the sprint in 2000 at Sydney and in the shot put at Athens in 2004.
Guy Nicholas Henly is an Australian Paralympic athlete. He currently competes in discus and shot put and has won medals at the 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023 World Para Athletics Championships. He represented Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and has been selected for the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Sundar Singh Gurjar an Indian Paralympic athlete from Rajasthan. He competes in javelin throw, shot put and discus throw in F46 category events. He won bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in men's javelin F46 event. He qualified to represent India at the 2024 Summer Paralympics at Paris.
Utkirjon Nigmatov is an Uzbek judoka and Paralympian competing in the weight category up to 66 kg. He is the champion of the 2016 Summer Paralympic Games, a medalist in World Championships, winner of the Summer Para Asian Games, and a medalist in World Cup and Grand Prix events in Para Judo.
Lisa Adams is a New Zealand Paralympic F37 shot putter and F38 discus thrower. Adams competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, and won a gold medal in Women's shot put F37, setting 4 Paralympics records in the process.
Mindaugas Bilius is a Lithuanian Paralympic athlete with cerebral palsy. He represented Lithuania at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and he won two medals, both in 2016: the gold medal in the men's shot put F37 event and the silver medal in the men's discus throw F37 event.
Hernán Emanuel Urra is an Argentine Paralympic athlete with cerebral palsy competing in F35-classification shot put events. He is a three-time silver medalist at the Summer Paralympics.
