Kostiantynivka is a village in Marinka urban hromada, Pokrovsk Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. The population was 1,293 in the 2001 Ukrainian census.

History

The village was founded in 1838.

Russo-Ukrainian War

As part of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the village is currently part of the frontline and came under pressure in early June 2024. [2]

On 24 July, a major mechanized assault was launched by Russian forces towards Kostiantynivka, taking significant losses, but advancing into the eastern outskirts of the village. [3] [4] In the following weeks, Russian forces made further advances in the village, reaching the center by 16 August. [5] on August,27 2024 they fully occupied it.

Demographics

According to the 2001 Ukrainian census, the population of the village was 1,289, of which 93.89% stated Ukrainian to be their native language, 5.96% stated their native language to be Russian and 0.08% Belarusian and Moldovan (Romanian). [1]

On 15 May 2023, a renewed local Russian offensive recaptured the village. Russian forces have maintained control of the village since then, and as of mid-July, have used area surrounding the village as a grouping point to stage attacks with the intent to cross the Oskil.

The Vostok Brigade or 114th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade is a military unit of Russian Ground Forces. Until January 1, 2023, it was part of the self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" (DPR). It is attached to the 1st Donetsk Army Corps. The brigade was created and is commanded by Alexander Khodakovsky. According to an interview with The Washington Post, DPR president Denis Pushilin, the battalion was formed by local separatists and has nothing to do with the Chechen unit of the same name.

During the first days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the village was captured by Russian forces in their initial advance into the nation. The village for a short time returned to Ukrainian control after their successful 2022 Ukrainian eastern counteroffensive in September, but a localized Russian offensive recaptured the village on 16 February 2023.

On 10 May 2024, the Russian Armed Forces began an offensive operation in Ukraine's Kharkiv Oblast, shelling and attempting to breach the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the direction of Vovchansk and Kharkiv. The Guardian reported that the offensive has led to Russia's biggest territorial gains in 18 months. By early June the Russian offensive stalled, with The Guardian reporting that the situation on the frontline had been "stabilized." Ukrainian forces then began a concerted counterattack, which liberated its first settlement on 19 June.

The battle of Toretsk is an ongoing engagement in the Russian invasion of Ukraine between the Russian Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of Ukraine for control of the city of Toretsk and the satellite settlements east of it, Pivdenne, Zalizne, Druzhba, Pivnichne, and Shumy, and the settlement south of it, Niu-York, beginning on 18 June 2024. The Pokrovsk offensive is an ongoing military operation in the Russian invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Armed Forces with the goal of capturing the strategic city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast. Fighting began with the Russian advance into and subsequent capture of Prohres on 18 and 19 July, 2024, a turning point for the Russian offensive northwest of Avdiivka following the latter's capture in February 2024, and has taken place in numerous settlements east of Pokrovsk in Pokrovsk Raion.

Mykolaivka is a village in Novohrodivka urban hromada, Pokrovsk Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. The population was 805 in the 2001 Ukrainian census.
