Maksymilianivka is a village in Marinka urban hromada, Pokrovsk Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. The population was 2,171 in the 2001 Ukrainian census.
The village was founded in 1863.
The village is currently on the frontline in the Russo-Ukrainian War and has come under Russian artillery fire multiple times, which has caused damage to buildings in the settlement and at least one civilian injury. [1] [2] [3] It became contested between Russia and Ukraine on 14 June 2024 when Russian troops entered the eastern outskirts of the village. [4] On 17 October 2024, Russian forces claimed to have captured the village. [5] This was confirmed on 20 October. [6]
According to the 2001 Ukrainian census, the population of the village was 2,171, of which 91.52% stated Ukrainian to be their native language, and 8.15% stated their native language to be Russian. [7]

During the first days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the village was captured by Russian forces in their initial advance into the nation. The village for a short time returned to Ukrainian control after their successful 2022 Kharkiv counteroffensive in September, but a localized Russian offensive later recaptured the village.

On 10 May 2024, the Russian Armed Forces began an offensive operation in Ukraine's Kharkiv Oblast, shelling and attempting to breach the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the direction of Vovchansk and Kharkiv. The Guardian reported that the offensive has led to Russia's biggest territorial gains in 18 months. By early June the Russian offensive stalled, with The Guardian reporting that the situation on the frontline had been "stabilized." The battle of Toretsk is an ongoing engagement in the Russian invasion of Ukraine between the Russian Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of Ukraine for control of the city of Toretsk and the satellite settlements east of it, Pivdenne, Zalizne, Druzhba, Pivnichne, and Shumy, and the settlement south of it, Niu-York, beginning on 18 June 2024. Fighting increased with the Russian advance into and subsequent capture of Prohres on 18 and 19 July 2024, a turning point for the Russian offensive northwest of Avdiivka following the latter's capture in February 2024, and has taken place in numerous settlements east and south of Pokrovsk in Pokrovsk Raion.
