Krishand R. K., professionally credited as Krishand, is an Indian film director, screenwriter, cinematographer and producer, who works in Malayalam cinema. [1] He has won a National Film Award and two Kerala State Film Awards and a Padmarajan Award for his film Aavasavyuham .

Early life

Krishand received his Bachelor of Technology from Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology in Kerala. [2] He got his Master of Design from IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay. [3]

Career

Krishand began his career in 2012 as a screenwriter in the short film Flames. He has also scripted and directed the short films, Mombattiyan and Bhagavthikaavile Paapikal.

In 2018, the web series Utsaha Ithihasam on Zee5, directed by Krishand received a nomination in the Seoul Webfest [4] and won Best Dramedy award. [5] [6]

In 2018, he made his feature film debut in Malayalam as a director of Vrithakrithyilulla Chathuram. It competed in the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK)'s international competition category. [7] The film won a Kerala State Film Award for Best Background Music. [8]

His second film, Aavasavyuham , competed in the 26th IFFK (IFFK 2021). [9] where it won the FIPRESCI and NETPAC Award. [10] It also won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Screenplay and Kerala State Film Award for Best Film. [11]

Madath Thekkepaattu Vasudevan Nair, popularly known as M.T., is an Indian author, screenplay writer and film director. He is a prolific and versatile writer in modern Malayalam literature, and is one of the masters of post-Independence Indian literature. At the age of 20, as a chemistry undergraduate, he won the prize for the best short story in Malayalam at World Short Story Competition conducted by The New York Herald Tribune. His first major novel Naalukettu, written at the age of 23, won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1958. His other novels include Manju (Mist), Kaalam (Time), Asuravithu and Randamoozham. The deep emotional experiences of his early days have gone into the making of MT's novels. Most of his works are oriented towards the basic Malayalam family structure and culture and many of them were path-breaking in the history of Malayalam literature. His three seminal novels on life in the matriarchal family in Kerala are Naalukettu, Asuravithu, and Kaalam. Randamoozham, which retells the story of the Mahabharatha from the point of view of Bhimasena, is widely credited as his masterpiece.

Hariharan is an Indian film director who has directed over 50 Malayalam films. His movies mainly revolve around the cultural and relational aspects of a typical Keralite society. His most notable works include Sharapancharam (1979), Panchagni (1986), Idavazhiyile Poocha Mindappoocha (1979), Amrutham Gamaya (1987), Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), Sargam (1992), Parinayam (1994) and Pazhassi Raja (2009) which has won him wide critical acclaim. In 2019, he was awarded the J. C. Daniel Award, Kerala government's highest honour for contributions to Malayalam cinema.

Rashin Rahman commonly known by his Surname Rahman is an Indian actor. He has worked in around 200 films, primarily in Malayalam cinema, in addition to Tamil, Hindi and Telugu cinema, and has won several awards. In Tamil and Telugu cinema, he is also known by the screen names Raghuman and Raghu.

One of his best known novels is Oru Sankeerthanam Pole (1993) for which he won the Vayalar Award in 1996. He got Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel Ashtapadi. In 2006, he was awarded the Malayattoor Award for his novel, Narayanam.

V. K. Prakash is an Indian film director and actor. He makes films, music videos, and commercials, and works predominantly in Malayalam, but has also directed Telugu, Marathi, Kannada and Hindi films. Prakash's debut feature directorial was Punaradhivasam (2000) which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam and Kerala State Film Award for Best Debut Director. His film Nirnayakam (2015) won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues.

<i>Adimadhyantham</i> 2011 Indian film

Adimadhyantham is a 2011 Malayalam film written and directed by debutant Sherrey and produced by P. Rasheed, starring Prajith and Sajitha Madathil in the lead roles. Adimadhyantham won a special mention award at the 59th National Film Awards. The film is yet to get a theatrical release, but received generally positive reviews in its premiere show. It was the only Malayalam film selected to compete in the 16th International Film Festival of Kerala, but was later ousted on technical grounds, and after a huge scandal, was included for a non-competition screening.

Padmarajan Award is instituted by Padmarajan Memorial Trust in memory of author and filmmaker P. Padmarajan. The award was initially given in two categories, the awards for Best Short Story and Best Feature Film produced in Malayalam language. Now there are four categories: Best Short Story, Best Novel, Best Director and Best Screenwriter.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">S. Hareesh</span> Indian writer

S. Hareesh is an Indian writer, translator and screenwriter of Malayalam literature and cinema. He is best known for his short stories and his acclaimed but controversial debut novel, Meesa, which explores caste in Kerala in the mid-20th century. The novel, initially serialized in the Mathrubhumi weekly, was withdrawn after protests by right-wing Hindutva groups and caste-community organizations for "maligning Hindu women and temple priests". It was later published as a full novel by DC Books. Hareesh is the recipient of several honours including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Novel and the Geetha Hiranyan Endowment of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. In November 2020, the English translation of Meesa, titled Moustache, was selected for the JCB Prize for Literature, the Indian literary award with the highest prize money.

Aavasavyuham: The Arbit Documentation of An Amphibian Hunt also more commonly known as Aavasavyuham is a 2022 Indian Malayalam language mockumentary science fiction comedy film written and directed by Krishand. The film stars Rahul Rajagopal, Sreenath Babu, Sreejith Babu, Zhinz Shan in the lead roles, Technical crew for the movie is Chief Associate Director Vysakh Reetha, Editing by Rakesh Cherumadam and Cinematography by Vishnu Prabhakar. The approach used to depict the storyline in the film was inspired from Warren Beatty's directorial Reds and Christopher Nolan's directorial Interstellar. The film was streamed via SonyLIV from 4 August 2022 as a LIV originals opening to positive reviews from critics. The film also won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film in 2021 and Kerala State Film Award for Best Screenplay in 2021. Film critic Anna M. M. Vetticad ranked it third in her year-end list of best Malayalam films of 2022.

<i>Purusha Pretham</i> 2023 Indian film

Purusha Pretham is a 2023 Indian Malayalam-language police procedural film directed by Krishand and produced under the banners of Mankind cinemas and Einstein Media by Jomom Jacob, Dijo Augustine and Einstein Zac Paul. The film features Darshana Rajendran, Alexander Prasanth, Jagadish, Maala Parvathi, Rahul Rajagopal and Geethi Sangeetha in prominent roles. The screenplay Ajith Haridas, Vysakh Reetha is the chief associate director for the movie. The film is a police procedural story. The film was released on 24 March 2023 via SonyLIV.

<i>Family</i> (2023 film) 2024 Indian film

Family is a 2023 Indian Malayalam-language drama film directed, written and edited by Don Palathara and co-written by Sherin Chatherine. The film premiered at the 52nd International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) on 28 January 2023. The film was also screened at 14th Bengaluru International Film Festival 2023. The film is produced by Sanita Chittilappilly and Anto Chittilappilly through their production company Newton Cinema. It features Vinay Forrt, Divya Prabha, Abhija Sivakala, Nilja K Baby and Mathew Thomas in pivotal roles. It was theatrically released on 22 February 2024.

Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval(Malayalam: രതീഷ് ബാലകൃഷ്ണൻ പൊതുവാൾ; ) is an Indian film director, screenwriter in Malayalam cinema. He made his debut cinema with Android Kunjappan Version 5.25, released on 8 November 2019. His films include Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham, Nna Thaan Case Kodu, Madanolsavam. He won Best Screen play award in 53rd Kerala state film awards for the film Nna Thaan Case Kodu.
