Tbilisi, in some languages still known by its pre-1936 name Tiflis, is the capital and largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of around 1.2 million people. Tbilisi was founded in the fifth century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, and since then has served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Between 1801 and 1917, then part of the Russian Empire, Tiflis was the seat of the Caucasus Viceroyalty, governing both the northern and the southern parts of the Caucasus.

The Georgia Sustainment and Stability Operations Program (GSSOP) was a security assistance program designed to create an increased capability in the Georgian military to support Operation Iraqi Freedom stability missions. Launched in January 2005, GSSOP was also designed to help solidify the progress made during the Georgia Train and Equip Program (GTEP) of 2002–2004 and continue to assist in the implementation of western standards in the Georgian armed forces.
Old Tbilisi refers to the historical parts of Tbilisi. Although the term "Old Tbilisi" has long been used to denote the oldest part of the city, it was only in 2007 that it became an official administrative distinct, while also incorporating several historical neighbourhoods formerly included in the districts of Mtatsminda-Krtsanisi, Isani-Samgori, and Didube-Chugureti. The official district was abolished in 2013, with its territories allotted to several other divisions of the capital; however, locals and visitors continue to refer to historical districts as "Old Tbilisi" without precise boundaries.
Kareli is a town in Shida Kartli, Georgia, located on the right bank of the Mtkvari, 94 km west of the country's capital of Tbilisi. Kareli became the district center in 1939, transformed into a township in 1962, declared a city in 1981. The Training and Military Education Support Centre "Krtsanisi" is a major training facility for the military of Georgia and its US Marine Corps partners, located at the Krtsanisi settlement, outside Georgia’s capital city of Tbilisi, at the foothills of the Iaghluja mountainous range. It is operated by the Georgian Defense Forces General Staff Military Training and Education Command. Established in April 1997, the unit was known as the Krtsanisi National Training Center until 2016. It was also referred to as the Krtsanisi Training Area (KTA), especially in the United States sources.
300 "Samasi" Aragveli is a station of the Tbilisi Metro on the Akhmeteli–Varketili Line. It is named after 300 soldiers from the Aragvi valley who died defending Tbilisi against the Persian army, at the battle of Krtsanisi in 1795.
The Three Hundred Aragvians is the name by which the Georgian historiography refers to a detachment of the highlanders from the Aragvi valley who fought the last stand at the battle of Krtsanisi, defending Tbilisi against the invading Qajar army in 1795. The Georgian Orthodox Church had the 300 Aragvians and those who fought and died in the battle canonized as martyrs in 2008.
