Kumar Sarvjeet (born 3 April 1975) is an Indian Politician who is currently serving as minister of tourism, Bihar, and as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Bodh Gaya. He is the son of Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha Rajesh Kumar. He is also a social worker and member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, [1] [2] the largest political party in the state of Bihar, India. He was elected twice as the representative of the Bodh Gaya (Vidhan Sabha constituency), being the first to do so in 63 years. He belongs to the Dalit community of Paswan. He entered politics after his father's murder.

Early life

Kumar Sarvjeet was born into a family of Paswans on 3 April 1975 in Chahal Mundera, Gaya district, Bihar. His parents are Chandra Mani Devi and Rajesh Kumar, a member of parliament, Lok Sabha. [3] He is the eldest brother among two sisters.

Education

He attended St. M. G. Public School, Patna, Bihar. [4] He then studied at Mahesh Singh Yadav College, Gaya, Bihar. Afterwards, he completed an engineering degree from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Political career

After Sarvjeet's father was murdered near Madar, Dumaria, Gaya district in 2005, there was political unrest in Bihar. [5] Sarvjeet entered politics in response [6] and was elected as a Bodh Gaya representative in the 14th Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2009.

He campaigned for the 16th Bihar Assembly. Sarvjeet was credited with modernising campaigning strategies and initiating the digital outreach for his party. He was elected as a member of the Mahagathbandan in the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, and again in 2020, [7] being the first Bodh Gayan representative to do so in 63 years. [8] He was also the first Bodh Gayan representative to be elected as a member of the legislative assembly in the 17th Bihar Assembly.
