LA Hacks is an annual student-led hackathon hosted at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)'s Pauley Pavilion. According to UCLA in 2020, it is Southern California's largest annual hackathon. [1]
LA Hacks was co-founded by UCLA students Hadar Dor and Alvin Hsia. The inaugural event was held on April 27–28, 2013 at CrossCampus in Santa Monica. There were about 250 people in attendance and over 150 students from universities across Southern California competed in the 24 hours event. [2] [3]
In April 2014, there were 4,000 people registered [4] and about 1,300 to 1,500 participants. [5] [6] This was held at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion for 36 hours. Special guests came to speak at LA Hacks, including Evan Spiegel, founder and CEO of Snapchat, Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, Baiju Bhatt, co-founder of Robinhood, and Adam Singolda, CEO of Taboola. Their hacks were judged by top tech industry professionals (i.e. Sam Altman – President of Y Combinator, Chris De Wolfe – CEO of SGN and Founder of Myspace). [6] [7] [5]
In April 2016, the Los Angeles bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics signed on as a sponsor. The committee presented two challenges in which students were asked to create apps that would promote fitness and enhance the fan experience at live sporting events. [8]

It is home to the UCLA Bruins men's and women's basketball teams. The men's and women's volleyball and women's gymnastics teams also compete here. All teams compete in the Big Ten Conference.

On July 26, 2006, the USOC had narrowed its list of candidates to Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. San Francisco later withdrew its bid on November 13, 2006. The Men's Gym on the campus of UCLA, now known as the Student Activities Center, is a 2,000 seat multi-purpose building in Los Angeles. It opened in 1932. It was home to the UCLA Bruins men's basketball teams until Pauley Pavilion opened for the 1965–66 basketball season. It was informally known as the "B. O. barn." In 1955, the Los Angeles city Fire Marshal declared the building unsafe for a crowd of greater than 1,300. UCLA basketball games then also were played at the Pan-Pacific Auditorium, the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and other venues around Los Angeles.
Spring Sing is an annual music competition held in May at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion. Touted as "UCLA's oldest and greatest musical tradition," the competition brings together UCLA students to perform as solo artists, duets, bands, and a cappella groups in front of an audience of over 8,000 UCLA students, alumni, faculty, staff and celebrity judges.

They had an original record of 31–2 and 17–2 in the Pac-10, however this was adjusted in July 1997 to an official record of 32–1, 16–1 after California was forced to forfeit their victory over UCLA in the 1994–1995 season by the NCAA due to infractions.
The 1987 Pacific-10 Conference men's basketball tournament was played March 5–8 at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California, on the UCLA campus. The champion of the tournament was host UCLA, which received the Pac-10's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Most Outstanding Player was Reggie Miller of UCLA.
The UCLA Bruins women's gymnastics team represents the University of California, Los Angeles and competes in the Big Ten Conference. They compete in Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California. The team, coached by Janelle McDonald, has won 21 Regional titles and seven NCAA National Championships, most recently in 2018.
The 2010–11 UCLA Bruins men's basketball team represented the University of California, Los Angeles during the 2010–11 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bruins were led by head coach Ben Howland and played their home games at Pauley Pavilion. They finished the conference season in second place (13–5), and were a 2-seed at the 2011 Pacific-10 Conference men's basketball tournament, where they lost to 7-seed Oregon in the quarterfinals. They received an at-large bid in the 2011 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament as the #7 seeded team in the Southeast Region, where they defeated #10 seed Michigan State before falling to #2 seed Florida in the third round. They finished the season 23–11.
For the 1984 Summer Olympics, a total of thirty-one venues were used. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Rose Bowl, two venues previously used for the 1932 Summer Olympics, were used for the 1984 Games. Between the 1932 and the 1984 Summer Olympics, the expansion of professional sports teams assisted in the growth of the facilities that would be used for the 1984 events. Only two new permanent venues were constructed, both using corporate sponsorship, though neither were mentioned in the official Olympic report. Many other venues had temporary adjustments and returned to their normal usage once the 1984 Olympics were completed. Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto and the Rose Bowl later served as venues for the Super Bowl, the FIFA World Cup, and the FIFA Women's World Cup.

The 2013 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship was held in Pauley Pavilion, on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles, California on April 19–21, 2013. The team competition was won by the Florida Gators. Twelve teams from the six regional meets advanced to the NCAA Division I national team and individual titles. The selection show announcing the regional pairings was held on Monday, March 25 at noon PT on NCAA.com.

The Bruins were led by first year head coach Steve Alford and played home games at Pauley Pavilion as members in the Pac-12 Conference. They finished the season 28–9, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
Junction is a hackathon organizer with headquarters in Espoo, Finland. Started in 2015, Junction grew to be one of the largest organizers in Europe. In 2018 it expanded globally with a Junction event at Tsinghua University in China with cooperation from Chinese and South Korean universities bringing high performing students to attend the event in Helsinki.
HackMIT is an annual student-run hackathon held in the fall at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The 2018 NCAA Men's National Collegiate Volleyball Tournament was the 49th annual tournament to determine the national champion of NCAA Division I and Division II men's collegiate indoor volleyball. The single-elimination tournament began on April 26 with a play-in match, with the remainder of the tournament hosted by UCLA from May 1–5 at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles. Long Beach State became the Champions for the second time in school history with a 5-set victory over UCLA.

The single-elimination tournament began with play-in matches. The entire tournament was hosted by the University of California Los Angeles from May 1 to 7, 2022 at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California. Hawai'i defeated Long Beach State for their second consecutive national championship 3–0.
