La Esperanza Frente a Mi is the fourth studio album recorded by American singer Danny Gokey. It is a Spanish reissue of Gokey's second studio album, Hope in Front of Me (2014). The album was released July 29, 2016 through BMG Rights Management. [1] It was supported by the single "Que Tu Corazón Vuelva a Latir", which was released in promotion of both versions of the album. [2]
Daniel Jay Gokey is an American singer and former church music director from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the third-place finalist on the eighth season of American Idol. After his placing on the show, Gokey signed to 19 Recordings and RCA Nashville at the beginning of a career in country music, releasing the single "My Best Days Are Ahead of Me". His debut album, My Best Days, was released in March 2010.
Spanish or Castilian is a Romance language that originated in the Castile region of Spain and today has hundreds of millions of native speakers in the Americas and Spain. It is a global language and the world's second-most spoken native language, after Mandarin Chinese.
In the music industry, a reissue is the release of an album or single which has been released at least once before, sometimes with alterations or additions.
La Esperanza Frente a Mi is a track-by-track re-recording of Hope in Front of Me, performed in the Spanish language. Gokey describes the collection as songs that "defined his life" and became the "soundtrack to his mission." [3] The album additionally contains a tropical remix of "Que Tu Corazón Vuelva a Latir" and a salsa remix of "La Esperanza Frente a Mi". [1]
Tropical music is a category used in the music industry to denote Latin music from the Caribbean. It encompasses music from the Spanish-speaking islands and coasts of the Caribbean, as well as genres rooted in this region such as salsa.
Salsa music is a popular dance music genre that initially arose in New York City during the 1960s. Salsa is the product of various musical genres including the Cuban son montuno, guaracha, cha cha chá, mambo, and to a certain extent bolero, and the Puerto Rican bomba and plena. Latin jazz, which was also developed in New York City, has had a significant influence on salsa arrangers, piano guajeos, and instrumental soloists.
Gokey was inspired to learn Spanish by his late first wife, Sophia, who was latina. [4] He struggled with the language in high school. [3]
On May 6, 2016, Gokey released an extended play containing five language-variant versions of the third single from Hope in Front of Me, titled "Tell Your Heart to Beat Again". [2] The collection included the original, a Spanglish version, and a purely Spanish version titled "Que Tu Corazón Vuelva a Latir", in addition to two remixes of the original. While not promoted to the Latin American market, the original English version was a success in the Christian market. [5]
An extended play record, often referred to as an EP, is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single, but is usually unqualified as an album or LP. Contemporary EPs generally contain a minimum of three tracks and maximum of six tracks, and are considered "less expensive and time-consuming" for an artist to produce than an album. An EP originally referred to specific types of vinyl records other than 78 rpm standard play (SP) and LP, but it is now applied to mid-length CDs and downloads as well.
"Tell Your Heart to Beat Again" is a song written by Bernie Herms, Randy Phillips, and Matthew West and originally recorded by Contemporary Christian-Worship trio, Phillips, Craig and Dean for their twelfth studio album, Breathe In (2012). It was later recorded by American singer Danny Gokey for his second studio album, Hope in Front of Me (2014), with production by Herms. Gokey's rendition was released to Christian radio January 8, 2016 through BMG-Chrysalis as the album's third single. The song reached number two on the Billboard Christian Songs chart, earning Gokey his highest-charting single to date.
Spanglish is a name sometimes given to various contact dialects, pidgins, or creole languages that result from interaction between Spanish and English used by people who speak both languages or parts of both languages, mainly in the United States. It is a blend of Spanish and English lexical items and grammar. Spanglish is not a pidgin, because unlike pidgin languages, Spanglish can be the primary speech form for some individuals. Spanglish can be considered a variety of Spanish with heavy use of English or vice versa. It can be more related either to Spanish or to English, depending on the circumstances. Since Spanglish arises independently in each region, it reflects the locally spoken varieties of English and Spanish. In general different varieties of Spanglish are not necessarily mutually intelligible. In Mexican and Chicano Spanish the common term for "Spanglish" is "Pocho".
Gokey also premiered the salsa remix of the title track, "La Esperanza Frente a Mi", exclusively on Billboard the day before the album's release, on July 28, 2016. [3]
