The Laksamana College of Business (or LCB), (Malay : Kolej Perniagaan Laksamana) is an accredited private university college in Brunei Darussalam. It was the first British college opening a campus as a foreign educational institution in the country, achieved through its partnership with Kensington College of Business in the United Kingdom, the University of Chester, and Abdul Razak Holdings, Brunei Darussalam.

Background

History

The college was established in 2003 and officially launched on 18 March 2003 by Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Deputy Ministry of Education.

Since its establishment the college has acted as a subsidiary college of the Kensington College of Business. During 2008 the college became an authorised IC3 centre and was entrusted by Edexcel BTEC to deliver IT programs from 2010 onwards. [2]

According to Classbase, Laksamana College of Business is consistently listed in the top 10 universities and colleges in Brunei Darussalam. Currently, it is ranked as the leading (1st) among private institutions, tenth among public and private institutions, 4,065th among Asia universities and ranked as 13,642 among universities available worldwide. [3]

Campus

Background

LCB was originally a two-floors campus located at the AR Hotel Services Apartment, Plaza Abdul Razak, Jalan Laksamana in the heart of Bandar Seri Begawan.

By 19 August 2009, the college made expansion of an additional floor (known as third Floor). [4] Recently, the college also expanded its premise of having another floor (known as second Floor) on 18 September 2013. The Laksamana is a position within the armed forces, similar to the position of admiral in Malay sultanates and in present-day countries like Indonesia and Malaysia. Since South East Asia was part of Indosphere of Greater India since earlier, during and after the Hinduised Srivijaya empire, Hindu titles based on Sanskrit were used. The word Laksamana originated from Lakshmana, a figure in the Hindu epic of Ramayana.

Pengiran Khairul Khalil bin Pengiran Syed Haji Ja'afari is the eldest son and second child of Pengiran Syed Haji Ja'afari bin Pengiran Syed Haji Mashor and Hajah Dayang Sarabanun bini Haji Abdi Manaf. Kampong Pengkalan Gadong or commonly known as Gadong, is a village in Brunei–Muara District, Brunei, as well as a neighbourhood and commercial area in the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. The population was 3,356 in 2021. It is one the villages within Mukim Gadong 'B'. The postcode is BE3719. It is a popular shopping and dining area in the city as well as in Brunei, with several shops, restaurants and cafes establishing their presence in the area. Notably, the area was formerly a rubber estate and was called Gadong Estate or Gadong Rubber Estate.

The Selangor Islamic University is a private university located in Bandar Seri Putra, Bangi, Selangor. The university was formerly a university college, before upgraded to a full-fledged university on 13 October 2022. The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, had presented the official instrument of the change to Higher Education Ministry secretary-general Abdul Razak Jaafar at Istana Bukit Kayangan. Pengiran Muhammad Yusuf bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahim, pen name Yura Halim, was a Bruneian nobleman, politician, civil servant, diplomat, and writer. He served as the Menteri Besar of Brunei from 1967 to 1972. He wrote the lyrics for Brunei's national anthem, "Allah Peliharakan Sultan," in 1947. The song was adopted as the country's official national anthem in 1951, when it was still a British protectorate. Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit is a retired Bruneian military officer and politician. He previously served as the ninth Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) from 2014 to 2015. He was also the Deputy Minister of Defence from 2015 to 2018.
