Alofa Dawn Latafale Auva'a, [1] better known as Latafale Auva'a (born June 8, 1993) is a Samoan-New Zealander beauty pageant titleholder. She is the first woman to hold four Pacific regional titles by winning Miss Samoa New Zealand 2014, Miss Samoa 2014, Miss Pacific Islands 2014 and Miss World Samoa 2015. [2]
Auva'a was born in Papakura, New Zealand to a Samoan father and English mother. [3] [4] She graduated from King's College as Deputy Head and also received the University of Auckland's Top Pacific Chancellor Award. [5] Auva'a opted to attend the University of Otago where she studied both Law and Music. [6]
In 2018, Auva'a was bestowed a Samoan chief (Matai) title at a ceremony in Vaitele, Samoa. She is also a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand. [7]
A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Miss Island Queen is a faʻafafine pageant held annually in American Samoa. It is noted for being the longest standing pageant of its kind in the South Pacific. It was first held in 1979 before undergoing a series of changes. No pageant was held in 1980 and 1982 as it endured shifts in ownership and in 2020 and 2022 due to the covid pandemic. It was canceled in 1986 due to a tropical cyclone and failed to take place in both 1999 and 2002 when it struggled with funding. In 1996 It was held simultaneously on the same evening as another faʻafafine pageant Empress of Samoa. In 2008 the pageant coincided with the Festival of Pacific Arts and became the closing event of festivities. After undergoing extensive reestablishment in 2010 the pageant has since been held during Flag Day week and broadcast live on KVZK-2. It is now known as Miss SOFIAS and maintains yearly advocacy and charity programs.
Kirisome Auva'a, also known by the nickname of "Somi", is a Samoan professional rugby league footballer who plays as a centre and winger for the Ipswich Jets in the Queensland Cup. A Samoa international representative, he won the 2014 NRL Premiership with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and has previously played for the Parramatta Eels in the National Rugby League.

Rolene Strauss of South Africa crowned her successor Mireia Lalaguna of Spain at the end of the event. It was the first time in the history of Miss World that Spain won the pageant.
