Latvia will be represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, which will be held in Basel, Switzerland. The Latvian participating broadcaster Latvian Television (LTV) will organise the national final Supernova 2025 in order to select its entry for the contest.
Prior to the 2025 contest, Latvian Television (LTV) had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest representing Latvia 24 times since its first entry in 2000. It won the contest once in 2002 with the song "I Wanna" performed by Marie N. Following the introduction of semi-finals in 2004, it was able to qualify for the final between 2005 and 2008. Between 2009 and 2014, it failed to qualify to the final for six consecutive years before managing to qualify to the final in 2015 and 2016. Having once again failed to qualify to the final for six consecutive contests between 2017 and 2023, it managed to qualify to the final in 2024 with the song "Hollow" performed by Dons, placing 16th with a score of 64 points. As part of its duties as participating broadcaster, LTV organises the selection of its entry in the Eurovision Song Contest and broadcasts the event in the country. The broadcaster confirmed their intentions to participate at the 2025 contest on 16 July 2024. [2] LTV has selected their entries for Eurovision through a national final. Since their debut in 2000 until 2012, LTV had organised the selection show Eirodziesma , which was rebranded and retooled as Dziesma in 2013 and 2014. Since 2015, LTV organised the Supernova national final in order to select its entry, and on 24 July 2024, the broadcaster announced that it would return with organising Supernova2025 in order to select its entry for the 2025 contest. Supernova2025 will be the tenth edition of Supernova , the music competition organised by LTV to select its entries for the Eurovision Song Contest. The competition is set to commence on 1 February 2025 with a semi-final and will conclude with a final on 8 February 2025. [4]
Artists and songwriters were able to submit their entries to the broadcaster between 20 August 2024 and 21 October 2024. [5] A songwriting camp was also held in Riga in late August 2024 where artists cooperated with musicians from Latvia and Sweden in order to create their songs to be submitted for the competition. [6] 96 entries were submitted at the conclusion of the submission period. [7] A jury panel appointed by LTV evaluated the submitted songs and selected 20 performers and songs, which were announced on 20 November 2024 during the LTV1 programme Rīta Panorāma . [4] [8] [9] Among the artists are Justs (who represented Latvia in 2016) and Citi Zēni (who represented Latvia in 2022). [10]

Latvia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 24 times since making its debut at the contest in 2000, where the song "My Star" performed by the group Brainstorm finished third. Latvia won the contest in 2002, with the song "I Wanna" by Marie N, defeating Malta by 12 points. Latvia is the second former Soviet country to win the contest. The 2003 contest was held in the Latvian capital Riga. The country achieved its third top 10 result in 2005, when "The War Is Not Over" by Walters and Kazha finished fifth. The Latvian participating broadcaster, Latvijas Televīzija (LTV), organised the national final Eirodziesma 2000 in order to select its entry for the contest. This was the first-ever entry from Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Latvia was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with the song "I Wanna", written by Marija Naumova and Marats Samauskis, and performed by Naumova herself under her artistic name Marie N. The Latvian participating broadcaster, Latvijas Televīzija (LTV), organised the national final Eirodziesma 2002 in order to select the its entry for the contest. Fifteen songs were selected to compete in the national final on 2 March 2002 where a public televote exclusively selected "I Wonna" performed by Marija Naumova as the winner. The song was later retitled as "I Wanna" for the Eurovision Song Contest, which it eventually won.

In addition, LTV was also the host broadcaster and staged the event at the Skonto Hall in Riga, after winning the previous edition with the song "I Wanna" performed by Marie N.

This was the first-ever entry performed in Latvian in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Twenty-four songs were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of three shows: two semi-finals and a final. In the semi-finals on 1 and 2 February 2014, six entries were selected to advance from each show. Twelve songs ultimately qualified to compete in the final on 22 February 2014 where two rounds of voting by a public televote and a nine-member jury panel selected "Cake to Bake" performed by Aarzemnieki as the winner.

In the semi-finals on 3, 10 and 17 February 2018, two entries were selected to advance from each show alongside two wildcards selected by LTV. Eight songs ultimately qualified to compete in the final on 24 February 2018 where a public televote and a four-member jury panel selected "Funny Girl" performed by Laura Rizzotto as the winner.

Songwriter Aminata Savadogo represented Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Love Injected" where she placed sixth in the grand final of the competition. Samanta Tīna was announced as the Latvian representative on 2 April 2020 after she was due to compete in the 2020 contest with "Still Breathing" before the 2020 event's cancellation.
