Laura Mattarella (born 16 February 1967) is an Italian lawyer who is the current First Lady of Italy [1] as the first child and the only daughter of President Sergio Mattarella, who has been in office since 2015.
Laura Mattarella is the daughter of President Sergio Mattarella and Marisa Chiazzese. She was born on 16 February 1967. [2] A lawyer by profession, she is married to Cosimo Comella. The couple has three children. [3] [4]
President Sergio Mattarella is a widower since 2012, before his election in 2015. When he took office, the First Lady representation functions were then taken on by his daughter, who immediately accompanied her father on state trips and on visits within Italy.
On the occasion of the 2015 state visit to Vietnam, she attended a series of meetings without her father including a private visit to a school in the poorest part of Ho Chi Minh City. [5]

Xi Jinping's visit to Italy and France was a state visit of President and General Secretary Xi Jinping of China to Italy and France from 21–26 March 2019. It was his second trip to the Southern European region in five months, the first state visit to Italy and France in 10 and 5 years respectively and his first foreign trip of 2019. It also coincided with the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-France relations in 1964. During the visits, Xi met with Emmanuel Macron and Giuseppe Conte, the President of France and Prime Minister of Italy respectively. The two visits were part of a bigger European trip by Xi which also included a visit to Monaco to meet with Albert II, Prince of Monaco. A topic that came up in both visits was the Belt and Road Initiative.
The 2022 Italian presidential election was held in Rome between 24 and 29 January 2022. The president of Italy was elected by a joint assembly composed of the Italian Parliament and regional representatives. The election process extended over multiple days, culminating in incumbent president Sergio Mattarella being confirmed for a second term, with a total of 759 votes on the eighth ballot. This was the second most votes ever received by a presidential candidate. Mattarella became the second president to be re-elected, his predecessor Giorgio Napolitano being the first.
