Laurent Koehl, born 15 March 1971, is a contemporary French tenor.
Initially an audio engineer at Radio France and an amateur flautist, Laurent Koehl took his first courses in singing with fr:Udo Reinemann and fr:Gisèle Fixe. [1]
As a tenor, his scene debut was in Anna Bolena by Gaetano Donizetti at Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole in Metz, where he also performed several other works, like The Sound of Music by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
In 2001, he debuted at Chorégies d'Orange in Orange with Aida by Giuseppe Verdi. [2]
His international career has been notably launched in Austria and Belgium. In 2000, he chanted the role of Prince Ali in L'incontro improvviso by Joseph Haydn at Eisenstadt. [3] In 2002, he debuted at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna with Don Quichotte by Jules Massenet. [4] He further interpreted Gioachino Rossini at Liège Ruedi in William Tell in 2000 [5] and Mitrane in Semiramide in 2001. [5] One of his other prominent roles was as Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti.
In 2011, he participated in the new production of Psyché by César Franck at the Palais Garnier in Paris.
During the season of 2014–2015, he participated as soloist in the Orchestre Romantique Européen under the direction de Lionel Stoléru at the Salle Gaveau in Paris.

Domenico Gaetano Maria Donizetti was an Italian composer, best known for his almost 70 operas. Along with Gioachino Rossini and Vincenzo Bellini, Donizetti was a leading composer of the bel canto opera style during the first half of the nineteenth century. Donizetti's close association with the bel canto style was undoubtedly an influence on other composers such as Giuseppe Verdi. Donizetti was born in Bergamo in Lombardy. Although he did not come from a musical background, at an early age he was taken under the wing of composer Simon Mayr who had enrolled him by means of a full scholarship in a school which he had set up. There he received detailed training in the arts of fugue and counterpoint. Mayr was also instrumental in obtaining a place for the young man at the Bologna Academy, where, at the age of 19, he wrote his first one-act opera, the comedy Il Pigmalione, which may never have been performed during his lifetime.

Salvatore Cammarano wrote the Italian libretto, which has been described as "...a remarkable libretto, the closest Cammarano ever got to real poetry, particularly in his description of the embattled city and the heartfelt pride of its citizens". It was based on Luigi Marchionni's play L'assedio di Calais, which had been presented in Naples around 1825, and secondarily on Luigi Henry's ballet L'assedio di Calais, which had been performed in Naples in 1828 and revived in 1835.

Gaetano Fraschini was an Italian tenor. He created many roles in 19th century operas, including five composed by Giuseppe Verdi. His voice was "heroic ... with a baritonal quality, ... yet Verdi and Donizetti appreciated his ability to sing softly and with subtlety." An Italian biographer has pointed out Fraschini's role in extending the longevity of Donizetti's operas, while at the same time accelerating the ascent of Verdi's repertory. He was indeed the most prominent singer who facilitated the transition from Donizetti to Verdi. Fraschini sang over one hundred roles and Verdi placed him at the top of his favorite tenors' list and described him as a "natural Manrico" for his Il trovatore. Fraschini also played a pivotal role in the success of many operas by Pacini and Mercadante.
