Lee Schmidt (born September 14, 1947) is a golf course architect and principal of Schmidt-Curley Design Inc. He was raised in Carmel, Indiana and currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona. Schmidt is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) and currently serves on its executive committee. [1]
Schmidt is a 1970 graduate of Purdue University's School of Agriculture and was named a "Distinguished Alumni" in 2004. [2] He was selected and honored by Purdue University as an "Old Master" in 2011, a program honoring graduates who have made significant contributions to his or her own field. [3]
Schmidt began his career working with fellow Indiana native Pete Dye. He spent seven years with Dye working on projects like Virginia's Kingsmill Resort and Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic. Schmidt then moved to Landmark Land Company for 12 years, where he was a vice president of the Design and Construction Division. While there he led the design team at courses like PGA West Stadium Course in La Quinta and Mission Hills(California). Schmidt also spent seven years with Nicklaus Design as a senior design associate gaining significant international experience. [2]
At Landmark, Schmidt met his future business partner Brian Curley. [4] In 1997, they formed Schmidt-Curley Design, working primarily in the Southwestern United States. Schmidt-Curley soon focused much of its business interests on the burgeoning Asian market with a strong emphasis on China. [5] They are considered leaders of the China golf course development movement and were subsequently cited by Golf Inc. Magazine in 2011 as one of golf's most influential architects. [6]
The World Golf Hall of Fame is located at World Golf Village near St. Augustine, Florida, in the United States, and it is unusual among sports halls of fame in that a single site honors both men and women. It is supported by a consortium of 26 golf organizations from all over the world.
Mission Hills Shenzhen is a twelve course 18-hole course golf resort, located in the town of Guanlan (觀瀾) in Shenzhen, between the cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan. The Honda LPGA Thailand is a women's professional golf tournament in Thailand on the LPGA Tour. First played in 2006 at the Amata Spring Country Club, the tournament moved to the Siam Country Club, Pattaya in 2007, on its Old Course. It was the first LPGA Tour event held in Thailand and it increased the number of countries on the 2006 LPGA schedule to eight, including the United States.

The 2011 Omega Mission Hills World Cup was a golf tournament that took place 24–27 November on the Blackstone course at Mission Hills Haikou in Hainan, China. It was the 56th World Cup, and the first since 2009, when the tournament switched to being staged biennially. 28 countries competed as two player teams. The purse was increased from $5.5 million in 2009 to $7.5 million in 2011. The event was won by the United States, represented by Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland with a score of 264, 24 under par.

The Amata Friendship Cup is a team golf tournament for male and female professional and amateur golfers contested by teams representing Thailand and Japan. The teams consist of five male professionals, five female professionals, one male amateur, and one female amateur. It was first played in 2018 at the Amata Spring Country Club which hosted the Honda LPGA Thailand on the LPGA Tour in 2006.
