Legends League Cricket (LLCT20) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league that brings together retired cricket players. [1] [2] [3] The league has been hosted in various countries, including India, Qatar, and Oman. [4] There are two formats, Legends League Cricket Masters and Legends League Cricket T20. [5] [6]

Background

LLCT20 founded by Raman Raheja and Vivek Khushalani under the Absolute Legends Sports Pvt Ltd. [7] Following his retirement as the head coach of the India national cricket team, Ravi Shastri was appointed as the league's commissioner in November 2021. [8] [9] [10]

League format

Masters tournament

The Legends League Cricket Masters tournament was held in two seasons. [11] [12] The inaugural season took place in January 2022 at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground in Muscat, [13] featuring three teams: India Maharajas, Asia Lions, and World Giants. World Giants won the final against Asia Lions. [14]

The second season was held in Doha in March 2023. This time, Asia Lions defeated World Giants in the final. [15]

Franchise tournament

The first season of the franchise tournament was held from September 17 to October 5, 2022. [16] Featuring four teams, the season included a special match between Indian Maharajas and World Giants at Eden Gardens in Kolkata before the league began. A total of 15 matches were played, with India Capitals clinching the title by defeating Bhilwara Kings [17] by 104 runs in the final at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. [18] [19]

The second season of the LLC was held from 18 November 18 to 9 December 9 2023, [20] [21] with the addition of two new teams. [22]

The third season of the league to kick off on 20 September 2024. [23] For this season Shikhar Dhawan [24] and Dinesh Karthik [25] also signed.

Krishnakumar Dinesh Karthik is an Indian commentator and former professional cricketer and coach who played for the India national cricket team and is currently the batting coach for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. He was also the captain of the Tamil Nadu cricket team in domestic cricket. He made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 2004. He was the 4th Indian batsman to play 300 T20 matches. Karthik was a member of the team that won both the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Karthik is also the first Indian ever to win a Player of The Match award in a T20 International, having done so in 2006. Known for his six hitting ability, agressive batting style, longevity and ability to finish games strong, Karthik was viewed as a crutial asset in the IPL and the India national cricket team for almost two decades.

Yuzvendra Chahal is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian cricket team in white ball cricket as a leg spin bowler. He also plays for Haryana in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He is a right-arm leg break bowler. Chahal was the second player and first Indian to take a 6 wicket haul in T20I history. He was the first concussion substitute to be named man of the match in an international cricket match. He is a former chess player and represented India internationally in chess. He was a part of the Indian team which won the 2024 T20 World Cup, however he did not feature in any of the matches during the tournament.

The 2020 Indian Premier League was the thirteenth season of the Indian Premier League, a professional Twenty20 cricket (T20) league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008. The tournament was originally scheduled to commence on 29 March 2020, but was suspended until 15 April due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on 14 April that the lockdown in India would last until at least 3 May 2020, the BCCI suspended the tournament indefinitely. Delhi Capitals are a Twenty20 franchise cricket team based in Delhi, India. The team plays in the Indian Premier League and competed in the 2019 edition of the competition between March and May 2019. In December 2018, the team changed its name from the Delhi Daredevils. The Capitals started their campaign with a 37 run victory over three-time champions Mumbai. The Capitals finally entered the playoffs after 7 years, and they won their first-ever playoffs match. The Capitals ended up as 2nd runners-up in the playoffs.

The 2020 season was the 13th season for the Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab. They were one of the eight teams that competed in the 2020 Indian Premier League. They were the defending champions, having won their 5th IPL title after defeating Gujarat Titans in the rain-affected 2023 Indian Premier League final.
