Liberatum is an international cultural diplomacy organisation, [1] [2] multimedia and cultural content [3] company founded by Pablo Ganguli in 2001. It creates and presents multidisciplinary artistic platforms [4] and promotes contemporary arts, film, [5] [6] media, literature and culture [7] worldwide through its own festivals, films, summits and other programming. [8] Liberatum champions human rights, freedom of expression and women in creativity through its platforms across the world. [9]

History

Liberatum was founded by Pablo Ganguli in 2001 while he was living in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Global programme

Liberatum festivals, [10] [11] [12] [13] [14] shows, [15] [16] [17] content, [18] programmes and summits are hosted in worldwide. They have taken place in Russia, Turkey, [19] Papua New Guinea, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, United Kingdom, France, United States, Brazil, [20] India, Morocco. [21] The festivals encourage new and established artists to perform, discuss and promote their work in front of audiences so that they can debate and interact with their work. The artists are generally from different fields. Liberatum merged the worlds of art, fashion, music, both classical and contemporary encouraging them to collaborate.

Notable figures who have attended and taken part in Liberatum events include Peter Donohoe, Stephen Frears, Sir Norman Rosenthal, Charles Saumarez Smith, Shekhar Kapur, Valery Gergiev, Thomas Ades, Tilda Swinton, Pharrell Williams, Kirsten Dunst, Michael Nyman, Michael Stipe, Philip Treacy, Sir VS Naipaul, Zaha Hadid, Daphne Guinness, Wole Soyinka, Richard Branson, Annie Lennox, Clare Short, Shabana Azmi, Marianne Faithfull, Shashi Tharoor, Courtney Love, Gore Vidal and Goldie Hawn. Film

Liberatum and illy [23] made a short film in 2014 called Inspiring Creativity featuring James Franco, Hans Zimmer, Tracey Emin, Joan Smalls about what drives their creativity. [24] They have also made a film with W Hotels about transformation, including the performance artist Dita Von Teese; it was directed by Pablo Ganguli and Tomas Auksas.

Liberatum's other film 'Artistry/Technology' is a documentary on the relationship between creativity and technological advancement. David Hockney and Francis Ford Coppola agreed to be in the film. [25] [26] [27] [28] [29] [30]

Liberatum made a feature-length documentary about the environment and climate change entitled In This Climate [31] featuring Sir David Attenborough, Mark Ruffalo, Noam Chomsky and Cher. [32]

Style

Liberatum has presented a wide range of cultural diplomacy programmes [33] and festivals [34] around the world including multidisciplinary ventures in Turkey such as "Istancool" and has developed similar ventures in Hong Kong, Marrakech, Moscow and Berlin consisting of merging several artforms and striking performance art elements. The New York Times described Liberatum as a "cultural festival known for its hip quotient." [35]

In 1999, he became lead vocalist of the band N.E.R.D., which he formed with Hugo and drummer Shay Haley. Francesco Carrozzini is an Italian-born director and photographer based in the United States. Rosey Chan is a multimedia artist and musician who studied piano and composition at the Royal College of Music. Her solo concerts incorporate cinematic visuals and combine her own compositions with selected classical repertoire and electronic fusion. Her interests in collaborative projects have taken her into a world of contrasted disciplines; Architecture, Design, Poetic Spoken word, Contemporary dance, Experimental music, and Film composition. Rosey is a Steinway Artist.

The anti-fracking movement is a political movement that seeks to ban the practice of extracting natural gasses from shale rock formations to provide power due to its negative environmental impact. These effects include the contamination of drinking water, disruption of ecosystems, and adverse effects on human and animal health. Additionally, the practice of fracking increases the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere, escalating the process of climate change and global warming. An anti-fracking movement has emerged both internationally, with involvement of international environmental organizations, and nation states such as France and locally in affected areas such as Balcombe, Sussex, in the UK. Pungești in Romania, Žygaičiai in Lithuania, and In Salah in Algeria. Through the use of direct action, media, and lobbying, the Anti-Fracking movement is focused on holding the gas and oil industry accountable for past and potential environmental damage, extracting compensation from and taxation of the industry to mitigate impact, and regulation of gas development and drilling activity.

ifva is organised by Hong Kong Arts Centre. Since its establishment in 1995, it has been serving as a platform that promotes and encourages creative talents in Asia, making short films, videos, animation and interactive media. It organizes the "ifva Awards" and "ifva Festival" annually.

Istancool, also known as the Istanbul International Arts & Culture Festival and IST. Festival, is an annual international cultural celebration in Istanbul, created by Liberatum and first held in 2010 to celebrate the city's 2010 European Capital of Culture status.

RYOT is an American immersive media company founded in 2012 by Bryn Mooser, David Darg, Molly DeWolf Swenson and Martha Rogers, based in Los Angeles. It specializes in documentary film production, commercial production, virtual reality and augmented reality.

Emily Ting is an American director, producer and screenwriter. She was born in Taipei, but later moved to Los Angeles with her family. Ting graduated from the film/TV program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Her first feature-length film, Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong, was released in 2015.

The Cultural Institute of Radical Contemporary Arts (CIRCA) is an art and culture platform based in London's Piccadilly Circus. Founded in October 2020, they commission and stream a monthly program of art and culture, every evening at 20:23 (CIRCA 2023) across a global network of billboards in London, Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, Milan, Berlin, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Seoul.
