The Libertad Formation is a Lujanian geologic formation in Uruguay. [1]
The following fossils have been reported from the formation:
Tapirs are large, herbivorous mammals belonging to the family Tapiridae. They are similar in shape to a pig, with a short, prehensile nose trunk. Tapirs inhabit jungle and forest regions of South and Central America and Southeast Asia. They are one of three extant branches of Perissodactyla, alongside equines and rhinoceroses. Only a single genus, Tapirus, is currently extant. Tapirs migrated into South America during the Pleistocene epoch from North America after the formation of the Isthmus of Panama as part of the Great American Interchange. Tapirs were formerly present across North America, but became extinct in the region at the end of the Late Pleistocene, around 12,000 years ago.
The Asencio Formation is a geological formation in the Paraná Basin of southwestern Uruguay whose strata date back to the Late Cretaceous (Campanian-Maastrichtian). Dinosaur remains are among the fossils that have been recovered from the formation.

The Pisco Formation is a geologic formation located in Peru, on the southern coastal desert of Ica and Arequipa. The approximately 640 metres (2,100 ft) thick formation was deposited in the Pisco Basin, spanning an age from the Middle Miocene up to the Early Pleistocene, roughly from 15 to 2 Ma. The tuffaceous sandstones, diatomaceous siltstones, conglomerates and dolomites were deposited in a lagoonal to near-shore environment, in bays similar to other Pacific South American formations as the Bahía Inglesa and Coquimbo Formations of Chile.
Plaxhaplous was a genus of glyptodont, an extinct relative of the modern armadillo. It lived in the Pleistocene epoch. The type species is Plaxhaplous canaliculatus. Plaxhaplous canaliculatus fossils were found in Argentina, near Luján in Buenos Aires Province. Plaxhaplous fossils have also been found in Uruguay. and in the Charana Formation of Bolivia.
Tapirus oliverasi is likely an invalid extinct species of tapir from South America.
The Honda Group is a geological group of the Upper and Middle Magdalena Basins and the adjacent Central and Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes. The group, in older literature also defined as formation, is in its present-day type section in the Tatacoa Desert in the department of Huila subdivided into two main formations; La Victoria and Villavieja.

The Fray Bentos Formation is a Deseadan geologic formation of the Paysandú Group in Uruguay and portions of Argentina, corresponding to the Paraná Basin. It is composed of calcareous sandstones and siltstones with a pinkish-orange coloration. It outcrops in southwestern Uruguay, the central and southeastern part of the province of Corrientes and northeast Entre Ríos.
