Limestone is a village in Limestone Township, Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. It was incorporated in 2006 [3] and had a population of 1,558 at the 2020 census. [4]

The village is part of the Kankakee Bradley Metropolitan Statistical Area, which comprises all of Kankakee County.

Geography

Limestone village is in central Kankakee County, 6 miles (10 km) west of Kankakee, the county seat, via Illinois Route 17. According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, Limestone has a total area of 2.62 square miles (6.79 km2), all land. [5]

As of the 2020 census [4] there were 1,558 people, 612 households, and 500 families residing in the village. The population density was 594.20 inhabitants per square mile (229.42/km2). There were 621 housing units at an average density of 236.84 per square mile (91.44/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 92.11% White, 0.39% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.05% from other races, and 4.81% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.36% of the population.

There were 612 households, out of which 22.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.97% were married couples living together, 12.58% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.30% were non-families. 15.03% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.15% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 2.51.

The village's age distribution consisted of 20.4% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37.5 years. For every 100 females, there were 106.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $90,750, and the median income for a family was $104,231. Males had a median income of $61,563 versus $39,583 for females. The per capita income for the village was $44,961. About 3.2% of families and 4.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.4% of those under age 18 and 10.4% of those age 65 or over.
