The discography of Lisa Hannigan includes her many side projects and collaborations with a number of other musicians and her solo career, which currently consists of three albums and 12 singles. Hannigan is a multi-instrumentalist who can play electric guitar, bass guitar, Harmonium, melodica, banjo, thumb piano, mandolin, ukulele, glockenspiel and drums as well as being a talented vocalist. [1] [2] She began contributing backing vocals to Damien Rice's band in Dublin in 2001 [1] [2] and toured with him across Europe and North America. Rice dismissed her at Munich, Germany in 2007, [3] [4] and in 2008 she released her debut solo album, titled Sea Sew . Sea Sew has been nominated for the Choice Music Prize [5] and led to Hannigan receiving two nominations at the 2009 Meteor Awards. [6] [7]

Contents

Hannigan has also been involved in numerous side projects. She provided backing vocals on one track from Mic Christopher's Skylarkin' album which was finished by Christopher's friends after his death in 2001. [1] [8] She performs three tracks which feature on the soundtrack of the film Goldfish Memory alongside Damien Rice, [1] [8] had a UK hit with the Burmese protest song "Unplayed Piano" [9] [10] and she also features on the albums Burn the Maps by The Frames [1] [8] and Not Fade Away by David Kitt. [8] The singer also worked on self-titled album of The Cake Sale project, a 2007 Oxfam collaboration by mainly Irish musicians, on which she provided vocals on three tracks, including the "Some Surprise" duet with Gary Lightbody, [8] [11] which later featured on the U.S. television series Grey's Anatomy . [12]

Hannigan has performed a number of covers, including "Get the Party Started" by P!nk, which featured as a duet with Damien Rice on Even Better Than the Real Thing Vol. 1 a charity compilation CD released in Ireland in 2003 [8] and "Upside Down" by Diana Ross, which featured on the 2008 charity album Even Better Than the Disco Thing . [13] She also contributed to the 2009 charity album, Sparks n' Mind , released in aid of Aware. [14]

"Unplayed Piano" is a 2005 single by the Irish singer-songwriter duo Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan. It was released in June 2005 and appeared in a total of six charts, spending a total of twenty-five weeks there. It spent twelve weeks in the Irish Singles Chart after entering on 23 June 2005, breaking into the Top 10 and achieving a peak of fourth position. It remained in fourth position for two weeks before falling to seventh position where it spent a further three weeks. The song peaked at number 24 in the UK Singles Chart and number 36 in the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles. "Unplayed Piano" was released on the DRM label and featured Rice's usual backing band of Vyvienne Long, Tom Osander and Shane Fitzsimons.

The 2008 Meteor Music Awards ceremony was held in the RDS Simmonscourt, Dublin, on Friday, 15 February 2008. Nineteen awards were presented. It was the eighth edition of the Republic of Ireland's national music awards. The event was later broadcast on RTÉ Two on Saturday, 16 February at 21:00 and was hosted by comedian Dara Ó Briain for the first time since 2004.

"Some Surprise" is a song which features on the charity album The Cake Sale released in 2006 by The Cake Sale. It is a duet between Irish singer Lisa Hannigan and Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody, written by Bell X1 frontman Paul Noonan. The song was performed live by the duo for the first and only time at the 2008 Meteor Awards. In addition the song featured on an episode of the popular prime time U.S. medical drama television series Grey's Anatomy after which it was made available to download on iTunes.

The Cake Sale is a 2006 charity album involving the collected works of a group of Irish and international musicians calling themselves The Cake Sale. The album features artists such as Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody, Lisa Hannigan, Damien Rice, Josh Ritter, Glen Hansard, Neil Hannon, members of Bell X1 and Nina Persson of The Cardigans. These were brought together by Brian Crosby, a member of Bell X1 at the time. The album had sold 35,000 copies and raised over €250,000 in Ireland by November 2007. That month it was announced that the album would be released globally to increase donations. It peaked at number 3 in the Irish Albums Chart, having spent eighteen weeks there.
